"I wonder..."Meira begins to the descend into the candle lit halls of the dungeon, the hatch closing behind her as the commander follows. "What's your scheme with that noble girl, woman?" He says gruffly. "She's clearly dim. What are you getting from her? Sex? Money? Both?"
She was intentionally vague a bit with a teasing smile, leaning in just a bit.
"I'll let you in on a little secret..."
She left it deliberate and hanging, before pulling back.
"I didn't really need them anyway!" She said it with confidence.
"It's true, her grandfather some generations ago found me at the right time, but I have magic and skills. I could have went anywhere. Maybe I'd have become a merchant or an alchemist. I could have even been a pirate." Her tone made it obvious she was serious. Whatever the problem was, her and Jasmine had more than enough ability to get by with whatever they did. Did he save them? No. They just had no real reason to say no.
"Meira, you won't ever leave me, right?"
She doubted Celeste even remembered what she said at that age, but it had stuck with her.
"Some of the servants hated me, some pitied me. But it was Lady Celeste, and only Lady Celeste who understood that we could go anywhere. " She shook her head. On some level, she wondered if it was because of that she had landed on wanting to be an adventurer. She hadn't mentioned that boy for months. Truthfully, she already knew that she was just as much of an influence on her as any boy. And because of that, she couldn't just leave even if they weren't bonded.
"It's true. She's not strong. Spoiled and sheltered, but also knows she was born with a lot of things other people won't ever have. I don't think I'd ever find someone who can look at the world the way she does in another hundred years. I'm not planning for that to change anytime soon."
