There was this new app on the Android "Grand Labyrinth Era". It was a free app, and we they were not kidding, not "Alegedly Free" or 'pay-to-win' it was FREE, you got out only what you put in to it, if you played hard you ranked up, if you were just a casual player you stayed low tier. Then the dreams started: people all over the world reported dreaming about being inside the game. There was a sharp drop in players but the game bounced back, for every two people who dropped three decided they had to try it. That was just the beginning though, because around midnight +9 UTC at the start of the 3rd of October 2016 in 'Dream Mode' there was a special event: if you could reach the tenth floor of the Labyrinth and beat the boss you got a prize beyond price: Your powers from Dream Mode would start working in the real world... You and your party were dead set on pulling that off, but then things went WEIRD. Suddenly everyone was back out in the waking world, but... not? Things got super crazy for a few hours then you all woke up... Hundreds of miles from home, together, wearing your gear from dream mode, and; able to use your dream mode powers? Welcome to the Abyss, get used to living here, because when you once look into this world within a world, you can never look away... So, yea, anyone who's read THE GAMER, this is the aftermath of the awakening of ARC COMPANY, except it happens in the USA, with a bunch of 3rd shift workers who are part of a party coming out of the broken Grand Labyrinth Era somewhere other than where they went to sleep, with only their Grand Labyrinth Era clothes and items. (Guess what, that DOESN'T include their IDs and money!) Good news is they're all imbued with THE GAMER's special abilities, bad news: homeless, jobless, on the opposite side of their time zone (EST) from home and in some cases in a different country, and as far as the feds are concerned, none of them exist... Welcome to the Abyss: please enjoy your stay, watch out for the human trafficking... Anyone want to play this with me?
Well, this may be my last attempt to get some traction on this game*, but two questions: *(Hoping it isn't, but...) 1: what system do people think would be best for this? (I'm leaning GURPS...) & 2: Would you be willing to help me create a new system designed specifically for this game?
I would like to partcipiate, I always like the whole "games in real life" gimmick. Don't know anything about THE GAMER tho I don't know what system would work best for the type of game you're hoping to do, I'm not a good DM in any sense of the word so I would not be the right person to answer anything like that.
Wow, sorry, I totally missed this. I would also be willing to participate. I can build you an Excel document that maths out HP/MP based on stats and stuff like that. You would have to give me a list of certain things though. - Base Stats - Base MP/HP - The Regeneration System - Stat Points per Level and so on. We would have to work out a scaling System for everything (Like Strength to Kilogramm liftable, Experience Curve) and some kind of Skill Leveling System (That could work similar to the Experience Curve i suppose). Then we just hit in a starting level we all have (Let's say we roll a twenty side dice or something) and start spending points by putting them into Sheet, which then calculates the things hot accordingly. Then you as the GM can give EXP, Skills and Stat Boni to us as you see fit. Pretty much being Gaia and all that jazz. GURPS was basically designed for stuff like this, so it's a good choice. You can modify is as needed given the scenario and game mechanics as well.

Speaking of which, here's my present set of stats if we end up going the custom system route: Power: spiritual stat: determines potency when using supernatural abilities. Strength: Physical stat: determines potency of your muscles and carrying capacity. Dexterity: Mixed Stat: determines potential for use of agility and fine motor skills. Stamina: Physical Stat: determines potency of your lungs, heart, and other internal organs. Intelligence: Mental stat: determines how easily you learn new skills and memorize information. Wisdom: mental stat: determines your "street smarts", ability to recognize lies/falsehoods, social traps, and your long term planning abilities. Charisma: mixed stat: determines your ability to interact with others, quickness of wit, ability to adapt to changing conditions quickly. Perception: Mixed Stat: determines acuity of all forms of sensory and extra-sensory perception. Luck: Spiritual Stat: determines how likely random events are to turn out in your favor. (Do NOT underestimate the value of this stat, entire "abyssal" empires have been brought crashing down in a matter of a few months by threatening one otherwise unremarkable individual with an extremely high Luck stat.) Sexual: Mixed Stat: determines your personal appearance, ease of interaction with those you find attractive, sexual potency, ability to sire/conceive/bear children, and ability to make sexual advances towards your preferred partners.
So, in summary of what we have at the moment: 1 vote GURPS, 1 vote custom system, and 1 vote "I dunno."... (...I hate three way ties...) EDIT: I'll keep the voting open until Friday or Saturday: then, if we don't have a decisive majority, I'll go with a "both" option*. *(Opening one thread to build a custom system and a second to work on a GURPS based game and fan supplement to match.) :/EDIT Correction: after thinking about it for a minute I'm going to do that right now, It just suddenly struck me on review that this combination approach was what I wanted to do ANYWAY.
