'Let him rot there,' Ard said, 'If we set off now, nobody will have time to find him and warn Eredin. If whoever finds him would even know who he is with no armour on.'

'There is a path off the main road leading just beyond the ambush site at Erzabar's Point,' Ard explained, 'It's a steep climb up to the main road again, but we would bypass the ambush and could intercept the king's entourage before they get caught by Eredin and his men.'

While starting down the path, Ard spoke to Trista, 'Witcher sign? I cannot say I studied the lore of witchers while I was in your world,' Ard said, 'Ard means mountain in your language. There are many places in your world named Ard in the elven speech. Kaedwen's capital Ard Carraigh, for example. My full name is Ard Gynvael aep Coram, which means "Mountain of Ice, son of the Lion". As to why your signs are called that... I do not know, perhaps it has some connection with mountains?'

Heading out across the countryside, the group finds the shortcut, slowly and carefully navigating their way down the cliffside, nearly falling a few times, but barely making it.

By the time they get to the bottom, they see the king's entourage on the road in the distance, resplendent with colourful flags and armour, and a large palanquin in the center carried by slaves and flanked by heavily armoured warriors.
