Just finished my first commissioned chapter. It's very humbling to be asked to write for someone's story and something that I took very seriously. Here it is if anyone was curious as to what I wrote. Virgin Black Cherry It's part of the Jessica Alba - Adventures in Amsterdam story.
Having previously been asked to write for other writers and readers I'm happy to oblige. I was supposed to sign up at the beginning of this month but just completed the purchase of a new car and as such funds are low until payday (Can’t warrant paying for life’s little luxuries until then) As said I’m happy to write for anyone to be perfectly honest, but perhaps there is a way for the owner/reader to approve it? I wouldn’t (If chosen) want to be paid for writing a chapter that I think is good, but the owner thinks is garbage. Just a thought
I was thinking that maybe the banner advertising for the site's Patreon page could be better utilized. Maybe have it mention no ads and story commissions. Have it say something like. Don't want to see adds? Have a Story you want to get extra exposure? Want one of this site's top author's to bring your idea to life? Support or Patreon to find out how!
Agreed, also: it would be nice if the banner, which is in effect an advertisement, vanished when you pick a level with "No Advertising" as a perk, or better yet, gave you the OPTION of turning it off...
It does vanish but the site doesn't seem to remember that you have already seen the banner. Every time I come on to the site I see it. Not a deal breaker just mildly annoying.
Truthfully it doesn't really bother me all that much. The one thing that does though is how off center the text below it is. I think it looks fine. The color stands out without being an eyesore. It's centrally placed but not distracting. There are no tricks to it like with so many ads. Accepting something like that is the least I can do for Friedman for giving us a home for this stuff. He saved CHYOA years ago and I hope he can make a little money from it.
I would also be interested in this, don't know if if I'm popular or good enough to do so, but I'm here everyday and should have more time now that I quit my day job for school.
Do what I like and do it for the money - count me in. Is it possible to have another author to be your beta? I'm not a native writer and while I improved over the last couple of years, I still make mistakes sometimes... Also, a chapter created by one author, and 'upgraded' (additional descriptions, corrected mistakes, reshaped sentences) by other tends to be - from my experience - better.
I find this to be true as well... EDIT: Possibly because the second author only edits the parts they feel they can improve on...

I got to thinking and noticed that the patreons can get a chapter added to a story but what if they had an idea and wanted to start a brand new story and just needed someone to bring it to life.
I It would be tricky, because the introduction is always from the owner of story, so you would have to either write the chapter and let the patron publish it under his own name or have the story marked as belonging to the author that wrote the first chapter.
Not too difficult. The patron would create a new story, unpublished adding the author as secondary owner. Then the author would write the intro and the original owner can publish. If they wanted they could then also remove ownership status for the author. Edit: oh, yeah, I see what you're saying. You could put a note on the bottom "written by: author name" for credit purposes.
The only practical way I see would be to have a chapter one that would be only an introduction from the patron and start the story in itself at chapter 2 from the hired author. But the initial proposal wouldn't work, because even with a little note at the bottom or top of it the chapter would still be listed as being from the patron and he would gather likes from the work of someone else.
