Spoiler: Awareness Roll D100: 31 "But of course." Kurst nods, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. "Well, unless one decided to rewrite the mind again." He explains. He chuckles at Vanessa's hypothetical about the lab staff having their memories rewritten, no false levity in his expression that the heiress can see. Looking around at the other scientists, and at Lewis, she fails to see anyone acting strangely. "That might be a nice plot for a science fiction novel, but it has no place in reality. Memory reallocation requires machinery and tools, but more importantly a great deal of time. By the time you'd even scratched the surface, you'd be caught by the other scientists. And besides, we're not yet at the stage where we can freely delete memories - we're still in testing for that right now."
“Will do.” Azura promised before turning to Sapphira. “Ready to go?” She gave her a questioning look, offering her a chance to speak with her ex before leaving, if she wanted to.
"Uh huh, yeah, let's head out." Sapphira nods. "Thanks babe! Call me!" She shouts in the direction of the lab as they leave.
"I suppose it does, but then again. Those same science fiction novels are out and about in the city. Doing crime, fighting crime, running businesses both legal, and illegal. It was worth a shot to ask." Vanessa replied, seeing no signs of anything suspicious. "So, tell me. Has my predecessor asked you for anything specific?" She asked wondering if Kurst has met Oscar before.
Azura carried the briefcase with the vial inside as the pair left the lab and went back to her car. She took a quick look around to make sure they were alone and on one was spying on them, as unlikely as that seemed. “Well, time to head back and let Esme know what we learned here. After that I need some rest – I think that's enough excitement for one day... we can decide what to do next in the morning.”
"Well, we were given a brain scan, actually, and told to ready ourselves to test on that person specifically, but then we were told to abort - your predecessor no longer needed our help with whoever it was." Kurst shrugs. "Then we were given a different scan, but before anything became of it, there was that change in management."
Azura's eyes flutter open the next morning, feeling Esmerelda's arm around her waist, the other woman sleepily spooning the young magical girl.
This feels nice... Azura thought as she fully woke up. She decided to stay in bed and let Esmerelda sleep a bit longer (and to enjoy being spooned by her). After breakfast we should decide what to do with the vial... and we should also go shopping and buy Esme some new clothes.
"That is... interesting." Vanessa mumbled, Bastard, he was probably aiming for me, wasn't he? She thinks to herself, until Kurst mentioned another scan. "He gave you another scan? Can I see it?" She asked, her curiosity rising even more as she wanted to get to the bottom of things.
"Of course - it should be here somewhere, though we've had no use for it since the change." He snaps his fingers. "Peterson, get me that second scan." A young scientist, far less confident in his demeanor than Kurst runs off to an archive, returning breathless after a few minutes with a piece of paper with an image of a human brain upon it, Kurst taking it and pinning it to an illuminated wall. It's a brain scan, all right - Vanessa has no real knowledge with which to comprehend it.
“Good morning, Esme. Sleep well?” Azura asked, smiling, enjoying the last few moments in bed before they had to get up.
"Could have done with another round of 'exercise' before bed, but you seemed a bit too tired for that." Esmerelda kisses her cheek, before leaving the bed, her naked body exposed to Azura's leering eyes. "I'll go get Sapph to rustle us something to eat, and then we can strategise."
"Do you know whose brain this is?" Vanessa asked as she had no idea who this was supposed to be. "And did my predecessor say what he wanted you to do?"
“Remember to put on some clothes first – it will be hard to focus and strategise if you stay naked!” Azura called after her lover even is she openly ogled the naked redhead. With a sigh Azura forced herself to get out of bed as well. I should take a quick shower, then get dressed and have breakfast. She decided just as her stomach rumbled a bit.
Grateful in more ways than one, Jenny could only nod and the sisters made their way off of the dance floor. First they headed towards the nearest exit, but as Jenny's legs refused to obey her commands, the twins shuffled to a (mercifully) empty table instead. Jenny slumped in the booth, her fingertips rubbing her temples in a vain effort to relieve the throbbing pain. The thundering music didn't help any but Jenny suffered through it, Chastity by her side all-the-while and the young wife found herself immensely grateful to have her sister with her. "I-I'm sorry Chass..." Jenny apologized when she finally found her voice, "I don't know what came over. Thank you for being here." Jenny squeezed her twin's hand affectionately and offered up a half smile. There was a comfort in Chastity's presence, and as the other woman hugged her in relief, Jenny hugged back. "I suppose I do need something to eat yes, if you don't mind. But I'm not sure if there's anything open at this hour... maybe we should ask if this place has a kitchen that's still open? If not then we can try our luck somewhere else." After their exchange, Jenny stewed in her thoughts for some time, pleased that she had a lead for tomorrow night, but worried about what had happened after. The thoughts of the various people in the club towards her were easy enough to push past. Over the years she'd discovered that every person had their own dark thoughts that they didn't share with the world and never acted upon. To judge people by their thoughts was wrong she knew, you judged them by their actions. But the way their thoughts had made her feel... Jenny shuddered as another rush of arousal ran through her. "Get it fucking together Jenny." she scolded herself mentally. Perhaps under normal circumstances Chastity's inner thoughts would have troubled her, but Jenny already knew of her sister's anger towards their mother. Moreover, she knew of Chastity's 'faith', while any hope Jenny may have had for her sister leaving what she considered a 'cult' started by their great-grandmother would appear to be lost it was more a return to normal for them. Although Chastity's intention to bring Jenny back towards embracing her more wild roots was somewhat surprising; as well as her seeming romantic attraction, Jenny figured she'd be able to tactfully rebuke those. After all, there was no way she'd ever leave Harold. What terrified Jenny was how close she'd come to loosing everything. "Remember me, Jenny?" she shuddered at even the memory of hearing that voice in her mind again, and she felt the panic almost take hold of her before she calmed herself. "That's not me. That's not me. That's not me." she thought to herself over and over like a mantra. She pivoted her mind towards the other presence she felt, the one that had helped her; and she wondered who or what it was.
"No - it's not my business to know." The scientist shrugs. "As for what they wanted, I believe their desires were for a personality shift. They wanted to change this person's mind." The young subordinate who brought the brain scan raises his hand tentatively. "Uh, e-excuse me? Ma'am? I might...might know how to find out who it is." Kurst sneers at his junior. "Shut up, can't you see that I'm talking?"
"How terrible that would be..." Esmerelda chuckles, swaying her ass as she crosses the room, before bending over suggestively, her womanhood exposed as she pulls up her clothes. An hour later, clean and with a full stomach, Azura sits with the redhead and the blonde, thinking about what to do with what she's discovered.
"A personality change, huh?" Vanessa mumbled, but as the young subordinate spoke up. "No, no, please. If you can find out whose scan this is, please do so." She gives the subordinate a smile, before turning to Kurst. "Sorry, I'm just curious as to who my predecessor wanted to... reeducate."
"Hey, hey..." Chastity rubs her arm comfortingly. "No need to thank me - you know I'll always be there for you." As they go looking for the kitchen, the management, noting her distress, helpfully guides them to a quiet back room. There, at a table, a cook brings over two plates of rare steak, dripping and succulent, and as he leaves, from the shouting coming from the kitchen, she realises that they cook the food for the VIP section - and no hint of payment was ever mentioned. "They must really like you here. Fuck, this is delicious." Chastity digs in to the meat, her appetite for food as voracious as it is for everything else in life, though somehow what little weight she gains only seems to go to two specific areas of her body. Jenny notes that her mind thankfully continues to be silent, even after she tests extending her antennae a little - the voice is gone. Still, it's a worry - Doctor Whyte had told her that it should be gone for good, but then again, he'd more or less assumed that she'd go to live a normal life, not become a superhero who puts her powers to the test each day. Spoiler: Telepathy Roll D100: 24 Sadly, as she reaches out once more, the blonde doesn't catch any more hints of that calming psychic aura. Whoever helped her in her moment of need is either gone, or hiding their telepathic signature.
