A popular genre here is a character with an item or ability that allows them to change the world however they want. What about a story about someone who can remember those changes, but isn't causing them? Maybe she wakes up and all her clothes are gone, and people are saying that nobody ever wears clothes. It would probably work best if you could follow the person with power and the main character in parallel somehow.
The story Controlling My Mind (https://chyoa.com/story/Controlling-My-Mind.6981) is told from that perspective. You don't see the person in power though. It'd be possible to expand the power beyond the sole person I guess to have omnipotence.
Well, I have a story following that theme. Actually, one of the threads I started was with the actual mind controller telling someone else they have powers and then controlling them through said imaginary powers. The only way to spill the "twist" is to go back to the main character right away and of course my main character ultimately takes advantage of the situation but in a way that makes the secondary character think it was all her idea. See (https://chyoa.com/chapter/Josie-Williams,-a-female-nerd.274081). Is that what you meant?
I've said this before, but the real dilemma here is that the people who have a fetish for mind control (or total omnipotence) stories prefer a overpowered character who is totally in control of the situation. It is a major part of the fantasy. I agree that it makes for less exiting story as the end is a foregone conclusion and there is no tension when the main character can't lose but I also understand that this kind of power trip is what some people want to read about. I for one would prefer strict limits of whatever powers the main character has, at least in the beginning of the story and having them grow stronger later as they get used to the powers. Perhaps even have a story where they lose the powers... There was one such story (Amulet of something?) on CHYO EDIT: I just realized that the end of this post was missing for some reason. As I was saying, there was one such story on CHYOA where the MC had a magical amulet that gave him powers and in one thread his sister (I think) gets the amulet somehow and before he can take it back she starts accidentally using the magic.
Well also it's kind of weird to write a story that the person has a power that can only be used once. After that, there's not much else to do. The other example I can think of is the sleepwalkers story where the mind control only affects females. Once could imagine another one that is more like a 50/50 shot on the mind control or the opposite occurring. Else you need basically someone else doing the controlling that has set up an arbitrary limit or restriction.
My story Wishful Thinking had the main character lose the power during the main story thread. I never actually finished that story though so it didn't go into coping without power. This has me thinking maybe I should see where that goes though.
So would the story be how the main character survives with the things he has enacted? Things like maybe a sister, say, into a sex-craved bimbo or making all women insanely attracted to him? I think that would be a fun way to take a mind control tale. That or have an opponent who gets the power and you just watch them use your rules for their own effect.
I never really planned it out, just wrote it into that direction. Basically the power was usurped by a classmate who knows how to use it. So, I guess the continuation in this particular case would be how to get the power back from an omnipotent being. Which would take some cleverness and would involve having to endure tortures of humiliation I'm sure.
