Download Story (All Chapters)

I would like to download my entire story into a JSON and/or XML (or similar machine-readable) format. All chapters, with a single command. The download should include all game controls (variable settings, if statements, etc.).

I would like this for several reasons:
    1. I want my own archive copy
    2. I want to be able to search it to identify chapters that need to be edited (e.g. Global story search)
    - This would be especially helpful to search for game variables.
    3. I want to be able to create new, derived works from my story. E.g. for an HTML game version of the story.

[EDITED TO REMOVE THE REFERENCE TO GDPR - PLEASE DO NOT FOCUS ON THAT - I STILL VERY MUCH WANT TO DOWNLOAD MY STORY - I AM AN AUTHOR AND THIS IS MY CREATIVE OUTPUT]

My story currently has 460-some chapters, and so it would be painful to go to every chapter to download the entire story. I have seriously considered creating a web crawler to download it all, tho.

The GDPR wouldn't extend to CHYOA story content.

Why not? My read (IANAL) is that Article 15(3) covers it:

Story, isn't personal data in my opinion, but I am also not a lawyer.

Note that OP was referring to Article 20, not 15.

"The data subject shall have the right to receive the personal data concerning him or her, which he or she has provided to a controller, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format [...]"

    1. "The EU’s GDPR only applies to personal data, which is any piece of information that relates to an identifiable person."
    2. Ignoring the weak applicability of the concept of "machine-readability" to a story, HTML is already a machine-readable format, and because chapters on CHYOA have unique IDs, you (or rather, a machine) can perfectly rebuild the story's structure without consulting story map. In fact, the Wikipedia page for Machine-readable data calls out HTML as an adequate format. I suppose the phrase "machine-readable" is only used because the GDPR is intended to cover data that isn't already publicly available (i.e. personal data) and to prevent businesses releasing that data in formats like PDF and DOCX.
    3. Setting aside the above two points, it is moderately absurd to think that the European Union would take legal action against CHYOA because it's annoying to download chapters one at a time. While downloading an entire story at once would certainly be a nice feature, Friedman is not bound by international law to implement it. Common sense should suffice to dismiss the idea.

Note that GDPR right to portability was only a side note. The actual reasons I want a download feature are listed in the original post: 1) Archive copy, 2) Searchability, 3) Create derivative works.

    Thank you!

Ah, yes. I double-checkied the definition of 'personal data', and I agree story content almost certainly doesn't fall under the GDPR:
I guess you could make all your stories about yourself? :p

    Agreed!

CHYOA is a site for erotic fiction. Content that would qualify as your personal data isn't suitable for CHYOA.
