"I'll wait for you here in the market, then - I doubt they'd let me into the governor's mansion." Peter shrugs, and heads off to begin his search. Fifteen minutes later, Marlene finds herself outside the Captain-General's Palace. "Halt!" A group of uniformed guards shout at the gate.
Marlene take a look at guards and give them confident smile. "I'm Marlene Carvalho, of the pirate hunter ship Saint Antonio, under command of captain Kelly. We come here with full deck of captured pirates and I want to speak with governor about bounty. Open the gates!" She demanded with authority in voice.
"Relax, John. The sister here isn't someone to be stolen. She's here freely, and she has much to offer. Don't you, sweetness?" She pulled the sister into a one armed embrace and a little peck on the cheek.
The soldiers discuss amongst themselves, before a man approaches. "I am Don Enrique de Carvallo. I will speak on behalf of the governor." He gestures for the soldiers to open the gates and let her in. "Captain Kelly sends a woman to deal with us?"
"Y-Yeah..." The nun breathes, overwhelmed. John seems unimpressed, though he speaks low so the crew don't hear. "I don't think the Inquisition is going to care. Jesus, Isabela. At least get 'er into your cabin so no more people on the dock see.
Marlene cross arms over her chest. "I'm Rute Marlene Pereira Carvallo of the noble family and I'm secend in comand on the Saint Antonio and navigator of the ship. I can assure you that I'm more than enough to make deal in the name of captain Kelly." She said. "Now, can we go to business?"
With a hearty laugh she took the former nun's hand and led her to her cabin, patting John on the shoulder as she passed. "You worry too much!"
Witch responds with a deep sigh. "Isn't it human to laugh in face of things we have no chance to control?" She reaches under a counter and pulls out an unassuming candle, a thin cylinder made out of milky wax. It's irregular and misshapen, with marks of fingers along its length. Witch doesn't pay it any attention as it flares up with eerie, blue flame from a simple glance, filling the room with aggressive scent of salt. "For the occasion." Faye pushes the candle aside with a polite smile as she looks at the woman. "My "boss", hmm? Why assume I work for someone?"
"Ah yes, my...famous...cousin." The nobleman frowns, before nodding. Hearing her out as she describes the number of captives she has, he nods. "Fine. I'll offer 500 reales." Marlene has a double take at that - it's a pretty low sum for so many captive pirates.
John frowns, as Isabela takes her newest crew member into her cabin/bedchamber. "You know he's not wrong, right?" The woman asks, then shakes her head. "So, when do I, um, start?" Isabela notes a hint of anticipation under the woman's stoic veneer.
"My agents report that a woman with pale skin and raven hair, matching the description of someone I've been following, has been spotted in and around your shop." Now that's something that takes Faye by surprise - she remembers no such woman, and if she went in the shop then some of her safeguards should have alerted her. "Given that this woman is significantly more powerful than you are, it's safe to say that she is the master, and you the apprentice."
Marlene look at him, like at some idiot. "500 for full crew of the ship, which poses a treat for honest merchants and sailors isn't fair prize. Such pirate ship could rob and murder at least three times of this prize in just one attack." She said.
"Oh, really?" Faye reacts in more lively manner, smirking as she stretches out her fingers. "Never seen or heard about someone like that. What kind of magic is she using?" She suspects that lady got types of magic users all mixed up. Witch is completely different from a mage or a sorcerer. A little disappointing but not surprising that inquisitor couldn't tell the difference.
“Morning.” Mariel greeted her mother and kept holding the maid by the arm, allowing her mother to fully wake up and gather her wits.
"Well, you'll need to start learning, dearest, earn those sea legs before we ask you swim with them. We can start your instruction tomorrow. Now, since you were such a kindhearted soul today and gave up your home for lil' old me, I think it's only fair if I offer my nice, comfy bed to you instead of a place in the crew quarters. What do you say, hmm?"
Renee froze a little at the sight of large man entering the room, but quickly shook it. "What eez?" She asked curtly and shortly. The man did not even wait for permission to enter, after all.
Spoiler: Persuasion D100: 55+10 (Persuasion Skill)-10 (Black Sheep) - Partial Success "1000, then." He scoffs. "And not a single piece more." He frowns. "I'm surprised someone like you hasn't just joined the pirates."
"The cursing of a New York magistrate's wife and daughter with unseemly lust that led them to forsake their honor. The conjuration of a storm that led to the destruction of a French warship called the Dauphin. A charm that hardened her skin to the point where bullets had no effect." The redhead recites. "And those are just the ones we've directly traced to her."
"Oh dear." Catherine says, putting on a nightgown as she leaves her bed. "This...This could be bad, darling."
"How generous of you. I can't see how you'd benefit from that arrangement at all..." The nun smiles wryly. "I accept."
