If Chyoa was a place.

I had an idea recently that what if chyoa was a physical place and I pictured a library and the categories where different sections of the library and the main character was the librarian. Basically it would be a story that leads you to other chyoa stories. I would like some feedback on the idea and if I do do it I will only feature stories from authors who agree to have their stories featured. Thoughts, comments?

    Free publicity?

    Sign me up.

Umm, maybe with a little warning or hint. The kind people of the library might be a little scared by most of my content.

It kind of reminds me of a goddess in one of my D&D campaigns. She was a Goddess of Knowledge and her realm was just this gigantic library with the life story of everyone(including other deities) and she could just jump right in and experience(not change) parts of anyone's' lives from their point of view.

And of course, the first thing someone does in that realm is go find a book about a prostitute because my real life friends have the maturity of teenagers.

So the librarian would walk around his library and the reader could decide, where he should go?
Then the librarian would offer some "subcategories", and use each subsequent chapter to introduce a story/book with synopsis and citation? (citation not necessarily from the first chapter but an interesting teaser)

Hey if he has time to write the forward I wouldn't say no.

Thought of something similar where writers can submit their first page and then provide a link if they like. When Reading your post for some reason a reference section popped into my head as well.

The catch will be the sub categories. Many stories can fit into one or more categories already. Such as say someone wrote a lost in space fan fiction. Would it be sci fi or incest.

The first page would be quite the same as opening the story itself.
For me, an interesting teaser would be a jump right into a sexy scene or sth.
This could be especially useful for stories with a slow pace.

    Yes, but also sth like
"Cheating Spouses" with sub-categories that describe the "reason" for the cheating ("being neglected", "being nympho", "being mean and egocentric", "doing it on occasion")

This is amazing. I am so in.

'The librarian pulls a thick volume from one of the shelves. "These are the collected works of Bastardlydastard." She explains. "An author notable for spending his entire writing career without ever once having an original idea."'

"Who is the Funatic?" The visitor asked. "I see his names some time but never find a book of his." "Oh, he is just a minor person that adds to some stories instead of making his own to dodge responsibility. All his branches are mediocre at best." The librarian answered and yawned.

I mean, i know i am out (Cause not an author), but i like to be vocal and this sounds like a neet idea ^^

What a great idea, and once a week each individual room could host a reading of a story of the week just like on the main site. Hell even encourage a book club based on a different story! Count me in!

How do we submit our stories? Do we comment on the story or something?

Well the library is open but very much under construction. You can submit stories here by adding a page to the story. What ever information you can give on each story will also be helpful.

It seems to be set to private currently. I figure that's deliberate, but I wanted to let you know in case it was an error or something.

Thank you. It is now open for the librarian to except stories.

I have set it up where writers can submit the first page of their story if they like with a link at the bottom. I can handle the link part. Or you can just submit a list of stories you would like to add and I will do the rest later.

You might want to organize your submissions by author (as I have oh so conveniently done <_< )

Your submissions page will quickly become overwhelmingly long, at this rate.

once I get enough stories it will be time to stock the shelves so to speak into categories. When they become to large I will create sub-categorizes.

I'm not sure that i like the "submissions" page, in case those submission should stay there permanently.
    • Basically it gives you the same possibility to advertise your story like on the forum: http://forum.chyoa.com/forums/story-feedback.13/
    • But due to the nature of the chapter order (first come, first serves), you are worse off the later you submit your story, giving an "unfair" advertisement advantage to those early adopters.
Don't get me wrong, i like the concept, and especially Paige, the librarian redhead, is really hot as well! How did you know about how much i like redheads, i wonder? ;-)
So i actually just submitted a chapter for story myself.

Still, i wanted to point out, that it could be perceived as an unfair advertising advantage.

I like the idea of "Categorizes and Sub Categories" and "Card Catalogue".
And it could be an option, that as soon as those chapters are setup, to take the submissions and sort / re-post them there. Then delete the original submissions themselves. (Or move the chapter, if that ever becomes a site-feature.)
