Since i got so many likes for my post just above this one, and to prevent any misconceptions: It wasn't me who pledged the $24 monthly ;-) I just saw it on the Patreon page.
I'd be willing to write a chapter once in a while if needed. I'll write anything. My weaknesses are probably celeb and fanfic since its actually harder for me to get a grasp on those characters, but I can write sex regardless. Under my own power my M/M gay stuff is strictly sissy/transvestite types but again I can write sex regardless, if needed. I can do pee and poo, although poo isn't my favorite I can swing it done, uh... Tastefully? <_< Anyway I doubt I'll volunteer much for the position but I'm willing if needed.
We have a second $24 dollar pledge*. Guess us writers need to be ready . *It's not me just in case someone was thinking that.
I believe I wrote the first one For the Dark Angel story https://chyoa.com/chapter/He's-fully-loaded.328292
So how does this work? Dones the patron choose only the chapter? Or also the writer? Or the content? How did you knew you were picked for this? Message? Or was there a list of chapters waiting to be written? I'm curious about the process there.
I volunteered and was contacted by Friedman and the contributor and the contributor offered me two different stories they were active participants in. Since I'd watched some Dark Angel, I told them that one would be the better fit, they told me some things they wanted in the thread and I was happy to accommodate them, but I'd imagine that part would vary between the patrons. I don't think there is any hard system in place, that's just how we worked things out. I'm not certain exactly how I was chosen.
I've refrained from posting until now, but wanted to offer my perspective as the contributor in question. I suspect the logistics of commissions are subject to change over time, as more backers (hopefully) gravitate towards their affiliated tiers on Patreon. This month however, was exactly as hematoma detailed: I informed Friedman of my preferences (author and stories), he then contacted hematoma on my behalf and asked me to do the same when she agreed. I would like to add though, no slight is intended to any of the other volunteer authors regarding the order of my requests. I usually only frequent the two stories I myself contribute towards, so authors with no affiliation to either generally elude me. Consequently, when considering my options, I asked for advice from another writer, whose reading is (marginally) more ambitious than my own and he attested to the talent of the volunteers with whom he was most familiar. Hematoma was first on that list and reading some of her most recent instalments was sufficient motivation for my decision. Going forward, I do intend to share the inconvenience of my commissions around (I'm kind like that), so will try to familiarise myself with more people's writing in the meantime. For anyone considering commissions for themselves, I would certainly encourage you to try it. My experiences thus far have been entirely favourable and resulted in a chapter which far surpassed my expectations. I've already expressed my gratitude towards hematoma, but thanks again anyway.
Speaking as someone else that intends to become a backer; but who, (having been quite incautious with his funds this month thanks to a NOT-TO-BE-MISSED sale on gog.com,) cannot become so untill the beginning of next month and my monetary reserves are again refreshed: I would like to give some insight into my future plans for my own use of this subscription. I am minded to become, if present trends continue, the first backer at the $18.00 mark. I chose this for several reasons: 1: I am minded that at the present time that level has no backers, and I fancy the notion of being Unique, at least for a little while perhaps... 2: I DON'T want to have any "highlights" on my roster, the whole concept galls me: I will rise or fall by my own efforts and those of my friends, not something bought and paid for. 3: I want to enlist the help of the noble and talented worthies who have volunteered to write chapters for backers... 4: But, not for myself! My intent is to find an abandoned but worthy story or thread each month, this will no doubt take some searching, and bestow upon it my 'largesse'. I have several ideas in mind already, some stories to which I've contributed in the past, others things I have read penned by authors now departed that I should dearly love to see continued, stories of great promise left unfinished... 5: and this is the final note of my contribution: those of you who have volunteered and not yet made for yourselves a Patreon page, do so now. While I shall not abide shoddy workmanship, and my standards are high indeed, (I myself do not messure up to what I expect, part of why I write here as opposed to for a publisher...) I will first be testing the mettle of those with Patreon accounts so that they get a taste of what it feels like to be receive the ultimate compliment for their craft: cash on the barrel head!
lol I'm glad there's a new avenue for you to explore to find a writer for your story. I know how long and how much you've wanted someone to write it.
This is great you guys, capitalism (of sorts) at work. This reminds me of the Renaissance when the upper crust would pay the best painters to make masterpieces.
I think it's interesting. Some people (me) are willing to pay a little more for a personal story off someone they are deeply interested in. The person writing it can share the story on the site, everyone can read it. It sounds like a win. As long they prices don't increase over time and feel like its nickle and diming. I know I'll be committing to this one.
I know I might get in trouble for saying this but some of the other authors who've volunteered for this with Patreon pages have fairly reasonable prices for similar output. If your thinking of getting this story written a bit faster and have money to burn you could get up to about 7 chapters a month for around $50.00 total...
That might be true, but there is something to be said, presumably, about the warm feeling of no ads and keeping the site up...
Actually, that's exactly what I was saying. The $50.00 price tag for 7 chapters includes not only your subscription HaremStarter, but also Those of two other authors AND the $18.00 level from CHYOA itself to get to that total... EDIT: and @Loeman : note which of the several options open to me I Chose...
