I type and edit all of my threads in word. Then I copy and paste them to the site. Nothing spoils a creative mood like having a session time out destroy a few hours of work. Sorry for the loss of work, henrytemp.
I'm sorry to hear about the scene that got swallowed, henrytemp. You've been building up some really fun pairs. Take some time to gather your thoughts. Hopefully you'll feel a second wind once you have a blank page in front of you again.
I really hate when things like that happen! (Much more frequent on old site than on this one, but it still happens!) I too hope that you can recreate it somehow from your mind, but I know how hard it is to do so... : (
I've had a bit of writer's block myself for a while now. Had some good ideas, and now I'm kind of lacking the inspiration to pen them down the way I wanted them... Hopefully it's about to loosen up a bit for me, and I'll be able and get back to my 'chose your own adventure' story. Sorry for the wait though...
Writer's block is a huge bitch when we want to write, hope you can recover your inspiration too, Vain.
Yeah this is the smart way to do it. No clue why after all that time signed in, chyoa chose that moment to sign me out. usually I select all and copy before that. That was the one time I didn't so of course... Been spending quite a bit of time reflecting on the scene I wrote though, to make sure it couldn't be better
It's amazing the power these characters have of writing themselves out without my permission, lol. Remember what I said before about having defined the pairings for my storyline? Well, Zack/Heather and Gavin/Chloe will remain, but scratch Victoria/Brandon, a much better idea for our lovely green-eyed blonde occurred to me yesterday, one that doesn't include Brandon, at least not on a longterm way, I'm afraid. So, I've written an alternate thread for that scene with the two of them in his bedroom and will be switching my main path to there. On another note, the story is approaching its first million of views and for that I thank every writer that contributed to the story, be it on the past or in the present, you guys are truly the best!
You've got a good story here, Duskford. You created great characters and a great setting. You've allowed other writers free range over their story lines. You offer constructive criticism to help other writers develop their skills. That's the type of editor/author that draws new writers to their stories and allows them to grow. Another reason for the popularity of the story is that most of the people who have read it, have been in the shoes of at least one of the main characters. We all had that one girl/guy that we just couldn't get up enough courage to ask out. We all had or were that one friend who never fully came out of their shell. We all knew someone that would do just about anything for a thrill. Everybody knew that one couple that we were sure would go the distance. And unfortunately, we all knew that one person who chased every skirt he laid his eyes on and wasn't happy until he hit it and quit it. These are just some of the reasons why it took just four months for At the Cabin to become the longest story in the history of the site.
+111111 or whatever haha agree, great story setup with characters we could all get into. I've struggled with a few. Heather was one of the hardest for me to get behind but think I'm getting there. I find in my writing that Gavin is shy awkward me at 18. Zack is more experienced but still shy me at 22. That was my entrance into this world.
I've read so much my brain is jumbled. I'm curious as to the weather. I had envisioned that the temps would be colder at night but then other threads had told me no. So is it warm all the time?
henrytemp, if you're referring to the temps at the cabin, yes, at the moment is warm all the time. But that doesn't mean you can't write a thread where it it suddenly gets a little cold.
Hope you figure it out. The quick pace is different but you have some interesting storylines going on
Apologies for late replies, been a bit busy Hey, it's yours, have fun with it! I look forward to that storyline of you write it I used to be a psychology major, so I have a mental closet full of random terminology, and the units I did on sexual paraphilias were... diverse, let's say. Stick "-philia" at the end of any root word and you'll have a probably real psychological state. Obviously some are more famous and those are the destructive ones (pedophilia, necrophilia), but there's ghosts, armpits, licking eyeballs (not kidding) -- they exist too in the literature. I guess I empathize with Gavin's character I bit! He reminds me of myself in high school, hence my characterization of him in my first threads -- stubbornly shy, but full of passion -- which is definitely reflected in duskford's main thread as well when he finally hooks up with Chloe. And yeah, in my new ones, he does realize something's wrong, but his inner passionate self takes over -- that and I'm a fan of Gavin/Victoria, so he likes her I do like your idea of Gavin and Dr. Jefferson investigating the erotophilia's source, I'm gonna have to shamelessly steal that! Right now, I have something special planned for Heather/Kurt and its effects on them. They're more aware of it than anyone else right now, and that will reflect their behavior toward each other regarding it. Haha, nice idea! Reminds me a bit like Vain's thread where Heather mimics Taylor mid-coitus with Zack. Or maybe Zack happily sneaks up on Taylor, thinking it's Heather, only to discover the truth when it's too late! (Well, that's a bit cliched, but always fun. Oh incest erotica tropes.)
Yarkoz, maybe if you go on that route of Gavin and Dr. Jefferson investigating the erotophilia, you could add Victoria to their little trip as well. Seeing as she likes mysteries so much and will possibly hook up with Gavin after their encounter, it could be a fun field trip. Just a suggestion. About that thing with Zack/Taylor, I'll definitely explore that pairing on my threads as well, but it'll not come into place until much later in the story. Heather, on the other hand, I'll be exploring that pseudo-incest angle between her and Zack, but it won't come without its fair share of drama too, and it'll get underway almost immediately after they return from the trip back to town I'm currently writing.
It makes perfect sense! I can definitely see Victoria wanting to hang around Gavin as much as possible afterwards, and would be a good excuse for her not to be around Zack for a while. I'm sure Jennifer would like to come along as well, seeing as it is her district and all, however I think her pairing up with Zack might be a good way to keep him occupied as his mind is jumbled with far too much -- and then maybe Jennifer cam help him with that jet cooling I look forward to that!
Just noticed a curious fact, up until now none of the writers who contributed to the story (including myself) made use of the hot tub on the cabin's deck. I'm always wanting to use that hot tub but none of my scenes seem to have a good use for it.
I really like the idea, but I'm not sure where I'd fit it in. I've considered starting a new branch off of the very earliest thread, so I can establish a slightly different tone that will make elements of a ghost story seem less jarring. Not ready to give myself that extra work until I've got my current threads completed, though. I'm sorry to hear about everyone's writer's block; I'm having similar trouble writing these days, though it's more for lack of time as work encroaches on everything. I've got a couple of days off after the weekend to ponder it and catch up, thankfully! And not knowing much about psychology, I can see that. From what I do understand there might be a symbolic rationale behind certain paraphilias but not consistently? Maybe I should look into it, as I have a very specific theme around why one might find spirits erotic. Yes. YES. Ahem. I'm a big fan of Heather/Kurt, so I can't wait to see what you come up with between them. I imagine that awareness might lead to an awkward morning after. Has anyone considered writing the two as having an on/off "kissing cousins" relationship? The tension between them is a major appeal, but I keep coming back to the idea of a mutual attraction beyond "I don't care if you're family and an asshole, you're hot." Heather mimicking other girls to get Zack hot is such a good idea. She's doing it to make her partner happy, but it's also kind of a Kurt-ish trick to have her way. Now I'm thinking Taylor should pose as Heather and sleep with Zack, in order to get an honest appraisal of his skills. EDIT: Whoa, I actually forgot about the hot tub. Where was that introduced?
Patzo, the hot tub was introduced on one of the first threads, where I give a quick description of the cabin. But it was its only mention, so I guess everyone forgot about it. On my alternate path, I'm thinking about pairing up Heather and Kurt romantically, he hits on her so much that he ends up falling for her. But I'm really invested on my main story right now though, so I'm not sure when I'll come back to that alternate.
