Same... But hello Talonias; welcome. To SilverSpectre here is his work, well the one he seems to be working on right now.
Oh, storytime. Hello everyone, best wishes and all. I was stuck in a terrible rut, trying to write stories. I had this sprawling monstrous epic completely planned in my head, about a ginormous spaceship stuck on the brink of falling into a black hole while the descendants of the crew remained unanware; yet I would spend anything between a morning to a day to work out a single paragraph, and by the end of the week I'd be convinced I needed to start over. All I could see were the purely technical aspects, the sentence structures and rhythm, relationships between a word near the top of a page and one at the bottom, the vowel sounds, syllables etc. It was going nowhere. After a while of inactivity I decided I had to start writing again because I couldn't bear to drop dead tomorrow without having produced something or tried to in earnest. So I needed practice, and it just so happened I had recently discovered CHYOA. So I started writing in this genre in order to knock down certain mental blocks. I'm not going to be writing overblown ridiculous sagas, I aim to take a trope and see where it goes. When I wrote my first, "And Another One Tinkers with Time", it was more to prove to myself that I was capable of committing words to (metaphorical) paper in significant quantities, that I was able to write stuff. The result, (in the Time Stop category) is of course a meandering self-indulgent and aimless mess, but it served its purpose for me. The Infernal Machine, my second, is probably my best effort so far. It's just this: what would happen if everybody except the main character suddenly adopted free-use as a social norm, overnight and without warning, with all the inter-personal relationship dynamics they'd previously lived with intact? I made a point of having chapters between 500 and just over 1k words, and keeping the sex scenes as frequent as possible, while trying to weave the plot coherently. It is my most aprreciated story in terms of likes (for which I am infinitely grateful). Demons in the Citadel, my third is one crazy experiment that I may or may not return to. It's an attempt to do Fighting Fantasy in the style of Fighting Fantasy but on Chyoa with sex scenes and sex demons. It lacked discipline early on, and now that it has ballooned to such a size as I can't even draw a meaningful story map by hand, I dunno what to do. I write this stuff because I enjoy it, and because I do indeed see the collapse of certain problems I had with my other writing projects, although it'll be a while before I dare venture toward the black hole again. Since a couple of people have done so, and it seems only honourable and fair, I'll leave a recommendation::Idius Halfhwit and the Aegis of Probability by DangerSloth. It hasn't updated in a while but there's like 60+ chapters and a 40+ deep streak, and it's a light-hearted fun lark all the way. I laughed out loud quite a bit, which is a welcome surprise. If the author sees this, I'm lookin' forward to whatever you add to it. And a merry Ying Tong Iddle I Po to you all.
My "Confessions" thread entry is a fair introduction. Confessions I've been on Chyoo, Chyoo 2, Chyoo 3, and Chyoa.
It's a great place to practice. In my entire writing career on Chyoa forums and sites, I've never had an actual JERK. (That was not an invitation to any that are watching. ) Most people like to talk about their stories, and freely embrace other people's ideas if they're fun. I think one of the reasons is there is very little pressure here and a lot of support if you ask for it. But it doesn't hurt that there's a lot of very talented folks here, and we're only made better by more people writing, so...
Thanks! I am sorry that it took me so long to get back to you! Currently, I have only one written work here, which is Broken, Beaten and Enslaved just as @Actiaeon pointed out. It's my main work on this site at the moment, and I will probably not be working on anything else until it is done. As to my other work across the web, most of my original stuff is not currently available, but I do have several of my older erotic fanfic works. I know, I know, but hey, you have to cut your teeth on something. I have to say though, a lot of them are not very good. Likewise, if you do read my story here, the first few chapters are also kind of meh. They were written back in 2009, I think? Pretty long ago, anyway, and I am a lot better now. I am going to eventually update them, but that is a project for the future, as I don't want to get bogged down in editing before the story is finished.
It's a great way to get inspired for a story again. Seriously, funny thing, when I do editing for flow and feel I usually fall in love with the story all over again and want to make it better. But then, I'm kinda nuts, so, YMMV. It's also a way I do my dailies... I read up to where I was, editing, and then follow on from there. Might change a word or a phrase. Almost nobody's noticed yet, but the story just keeps getting better.
If I started editing it now, I would probably end up feeling the need to do the whole thing xD. That's good if you are finished the story and can afford the time, but otherwise, it's going to take up time that should be used to write new chapters, especially since I feel the need to build up some momentum on chapters, and have a somewhat regular schedule of updates.
I have that problem; especially if you have a long running story. Almost never can I get back into writing an old story. There is just so much you have forgotten, plot points. Now in order to help me continue longer stories I take extensive notes.
Funny thing is, if I am invested in a story, I tend to remember most of the details I had planned or sketched out in my mind. If I forget, all I need is a little note to stimulate my memory on the desired subject (well, usually anyway).
I personally find if I really HATE a story idea that I've got lying around, I'll at least try to salvage some of the old ideas. Unless... I mean, I have some BAD action sequences written when I was fifteen... Don't want to go digging in that particular cesspit. I ain't too worried about repetition, but at the same time, in a purely mechanical scene, there's only so many different ways you can write tab a into slot b. But, there's a few great concepts I'd like to haul over the old mental wrecking yard and break down into something concrete. Last Time I did that, a year ago, I got my current story, which... is a hell of a lot of fun to do every day. Hmmm, maybe strip out that original magic system from the Harry Potter rip-off I was writing for my kid... you know, fun goofy stuff that's been sitting on the hard drive FOREVER. But remember all of them? Nope. I just wish I'd written more ideas down, even ones that I never finished.
A couple of Chyoa veterans in this thread, I am so honored! Thanks a bunch for contributing again hehe, always a pleasure to make more friends here :^)
While I haven't posted much in the forums I've lurked occasionally and I have to say this is one of the most supportive and wholesome communities I've ever come across. I'm guessing that because putting your own writing out there leaves you so vulnerable, everybody shares that same sense, and is in turn kinder to everyone else. It's a pretty funny outcome considering the content of the stories this community is writing. I wrote and posted my first smut story here over 3 years ago. I think I did it because I stumbled onto this site from somewhere, read some of the stories and just thought "Well I could do that." So I did. I've written a lot here and mostly its just so I can put my ideas down and put them out there. Of course I want people to like them, but mostly I think they're for me? I also have not consciously tried to improve my writing when I post here, which sounds weirdly dismissive and disrespectful of the site. But that's not what I mean. Because I have read some stuff on here that is so amazing. Some seriously quality prose that teaches me things and makes me want to be a better writer. But for the stories that I personally post here... they're basically disposable. I kind of don't care that much about them when I'm writing them... and it's freeing in a way. Usually when I write I edit and revise A LOT. I'll rewrite swaths of things over and over if I think it'll be a better outcome. But not when I'm doing smut. I'm so much more relaxed about it. Usually for a sexy story I will write a draft, then do a proofread to fix things, then post it. That's it. I'll very rarely go beyond that unless I'm particularly attached to a story thread and feel like something isn't working or is unclear. And while this isn't any sort of writing method I endorse or even think is a good idea at all, it's gotten me to just produce a lot. I mean it feels like a lot. I've published (as in started...) 15 stories of my own on the site. And have 25 unpublished ones sitting in draft I'm not ready to share. And a Google Drive full of... I don't know how many started ideas (I literally have over 100 folders in there, one for each story) that will probably end up posted on chyoa eventually. I don't know if I had a point to this post. It's mostly rambling. But I guess we're all sharing here.
Heh, I believe the story is that Agatha Christie read a few Mystery Novels that were not so good, and thought... "Well I can write one better than THAT..." Glad you're here though and glad you're writing. and because it's been a while since I posted anything, I'll post an inspiration for me musically.
Haha! There was certainly an element of that, but I wouldn't disparage anybody trying to write a piece and posting it online, and I'm very aware of how amateur my own writing is. And that is the general vibe I get around here anyway: Very encouraging overall. Constructive criticism almost by default. I think my main impetuous to start were just having ideas I couldn't find (or really didn't bother to look for) already existing as stories to read so wanted to create them myself.
Well, I guess I'll introduce myself next. I go by Nejifan and I'm a fairly new author on this site. My writing began a number of years ago when I was in high school and I really started getting into erotic literature. It started when I came by fanfiction and found that it held more than just innocent theories of our favorite anime and in fact held some of my greatest fantasies. It was then that I started writing smut about my favorite anime, Naruto, which you could probably guess from my screen name. I wrote my first story combining my favorite anime with my favorite kink: mind control. I have no idea where the kink came from, but I found that it was a massive turn on for me so I started typing and ended up not being able to stop until I had posted 9 chapters and posted them under the same name that I'm using now. Then I went on hiatus for awhile as life got busier and I generally lost interest in the story and in writing fanfiction. Pretty soon afterwards, I came across chyoa (it was still chyoo at the time) and started finding all these stories based around mind control and hypnosis and I've been visiting the site almost everyday ever since. I love this site because it really does make you feel like you are actually apart of the story when you are able to insert your own name, the names of the characters, and then choose what happens next. I couldn't get enough of it, until I started realizing that I had found most of the stories that piqued my interest so I started getting bored again. That is, until a few weeks ago when I got just drunk enough that I decided to start writing again to pass the time. Instead of continuing my old story, I decided to make a completely new one, not really following any particular storyline that I had laid out in my mind, but just one that I could live out my fantasies through writing. Obviously my particular interest isn't very likely to happen in real life, so my only outlet is through putting pen to paper (or rather fingers to keyboard I guess). I'm not very experienced in writing and I would say my description skills are subpar at best, but I very much enjoy writing and posting on this site and I look forward to hearing advice from the veteran authors here, I'm happy to join the community! Here's a link to my story if any of you are interested: https://chyoa.com/chapter/Introduction.635011
