Say I've got an umbrella story (I do) but some of my stuff works in a category, can I post it in that? Many thanks!
I've seen it done before but I don't know the rules well enough to ensure they were supposed to. I assume if you wrote it, you own copyright and can if you wish. I'm not a site admin though
I suggest writing to the author of the original story and concepts that may have inspired and hosted you, to obtain their blessing if possible. And maybe link the parent work at the end of your first chapter and in the description.
I may have not made it obvious enough - the original umbrella story and the substory are both mine, if that makes sense?
Oooooh ok. Well mea culpa for not paying attention. In that case, I reckon it's all your stuff, so do as you like. This seems like a reasonable thing to do, what you're describing.
I don't really get the point of such stories and would avoid them. In your case, I don't see a problem. I would also avoid the Miscellaneous category. If the branch fitted the story when it was added first, I would think it still fits the story. So these stories shouldn't be ripped apart.
Can I just say, thanks again - umbrella stories really are stupid. I've reworked one of the substories as its own thing and it's getting a lot more engagement, probably since people can go "Oh, ok, this one's incest" or whatever. Really appreciate the honest feedback
