Say I've got an umbrella story (I do) but some of my stuff works in a category, can I post it in that?
Many thanks!

I suggest writing to the author of the original story and concepts that may have inspired and hosted you, to obtain their blessing if possible. And maybe link the parent work at the end of your first chapter and in the description.
Oooooh ok. Well mea culpa for not paying attention. In that case, I reckon it's all your stuff, so do as you like. This seems like a reasonable thing to do, what you're describing.I may have not made it obvious enough - the original umbrella story and the substory are both mine, if that makes sense?
I don't really get the point of such stories and would avoid them.umbrella story
If the branch fitted the story when it was added first, I would think it still fits the story.I suggest writing to the author of the original story and concepts that may have inspired and hosted you, to obtain their blessing if possible. In your case, I don't see a problem.
I would also avoid the Miscellaneous category.

So these stories shouldn't be ripped apart.
