https://chyoa.com/story/Weather-Advisory.25396 -Hey all- I've created a few stories over the past couple of years, deleted a couple of stories, and was hoping for some feedback on this one. "Weather Advisory" By far, this story has the most choices for the reader. I tend to write a lot of voyeur and teasing into my stories. As of January 2021 I hit the 70k mark. I seem to be getting a lot of views, but not a lot of likes. I have included sporadic updates at the bottom of some chapters reminding folks to "like" to encourage me to continue. Sometimes it feels like begging. I also don't seem to be able to keep up with other trending stories... Any and all feedback on the story and writing is welcomed! thanks, Sleepy7
I've noticed a lot of folks like to read but are a bit stingy on the likes. I'm not sure the non-writers here get just how much motivation a writer can get from the positive re-enforcement. I wouldn't let it bother you, the view and favorite counts show a lot of people are really interested in your story!
Yes indeed, the "like" button is the stimulus/response that can keep one going or make you question whether to just scrap it. THANK YOU for your feedback!
No problem. I know the feeling! I write away and I think just two people really bother to offer feedback. It's a thankless thing at times but I enjoy doing it. Why go to the trouble of writing and not post it, right? Damn the readers own me, don't they? lol!
I was a long time lurker here, and i never liked anything. You gain more empathy once you become a writer, but when you are just a consumer it doesn't even cross your mind how much a like can mean to the writer. Hell i used to scoff at Facebook likes, thinking of them as pointless nonsense. And in a way i still believe that. Yeah, it's nice to get likes, but it's very easy to get obsessed with them, especially when you publish a chapter you are particularly proud of. I have to admit i was sorely tempted to try the old "Give five lieks or i won't continue this you fuckers!" at least once. But that is not a healthy mindset to have.
I agree, with that. Kinetcat brought up the point of looking at views, not "likes." Thank you two for the sage advice! -Sleepy7
Favorites are probably a better metric than views. If I look at my story 5 times that counts as 5 views. Sometimes it’ll give you a bit of an idea of traffic to the story though
