All right, I'll take it. Thanks for letting me know it's a thing.

You can already do that with external tools. For example, this is what I did with the old chyoo: using firefox, I downloaded the "scrapbook" extension and used it from the story map to download web pages (1 link deep). That way I had the whole story offline (navigable from the stoy map page only, though). Maybe there're better ways, but that's what I found :)

What about a story of the day. Based on whatever story receives the most updates the previous day. Just a silly thought. Or maybe a most updated category. the problem with the recently updated stories is your story can still be missed if it is say number four, eight, or twelve on the list

Something I like to see in a future update that I have seen on saw picture websites in one box with say numbers or maybe just dots or a tiny picture from the cover, or maybe just arrows on either side that you click on and it scrolls through the stories, though not sure how much work that be. Something like the top of this one but for stories.

This is just me rambling and throwing out thoughts.

Awesome! I never knew about that.

I speak from experience where some of my past work on cyoa stories has been lost due to site deletion without warning. That's one reason I'm here.

One thing I've noticed is that the 'top chapter' results aren't particularly useful. Every link is either 'Introduction' or goes to the same story at the moment.

Wouldn't the results be more useful if top chapters were limited to 1 per story at a time? And/or maybe weight the results to decrease the chances of it showing the first thread? All that really shows is that the story is popular, not the chapter necessarily.

This is a thought, and also a question.
Does this site have a chat room for authors and readers to hang out and interact? It could be fun way to bounce ideas of one another and get more involved in the community, as well as a good place to rp.

When you go to your profile by clicking on your name, then click on stories, you see a list of your stories, but you cannot edit them.

The only way that I know to edit a story is to click on the drop down arrow on the top right and select "my stories" then click on the three vertical dots at the top right of the story entry.

I'm just being picky, but that was very confusing to me when I was getting started and tried to edit my story summary. I would suggest multiple ways to get to the story edit menu.

It would be nice to be able to re-order the chapters linked in a given thread, or is there a way to do that already and I just haven't figured it out?

If you mean the choices leading out of a given chapter to the next one, I don't know any way of re-ordering them. I suppose if they're only one chapter deep, you could rename and move content around to match the order you want. Anyone else have a thought?

I don't know if this has been suggested before, but it would be nice if the other user is notified when they are replied to in the comments of a story. Messaging is one thing, but sometimes it feels more appropriate to reply back into a comment of a chapter for a quick word or something. An indicator like @username can be used.

A thought, and I'm not sure if this has been suggested:
I'm doing a very complex story that branches at basically every non-terminal chapter, which means there are often a few ways to reach the same thread (IE A splits into B1, B2, B3, and depending on choices, B1 and B2 can both lead into C). The chief reason I'm doing this is so that choices made early on can have an affect later. Is it possible to have hidden variables whose value is set when a specific choice is made and can be referred to later?
For instance, let's say character Bob can be killed, depending on player action. Would it be possible to later have a thread check if Bob is alive, and if he is, insert a paragraph, or even add a whole thread option? Like, later on in the story you have the choice to go with Jim or Dave. If Bob is alive, his thread will show up too; if not, it'll just show two.
This seems very complex but it would add a lot of functionality to especially complex stories and I think it would be a great experience for readers. I've already had to have a thread that says "Did you meet character X or Y earlier in the story" and proceeded based on their input. It works but it's not ideal and it doesn't work for finer manipulation, such as inserting a single paragraph.
Would the site's coding make this extremely difficult or impossible? Or could it be done?

On any page up at the top right where you have your Username, Favorites, Messages & Notifications. Could one be added called 'In Review'. Under this, it be any chapter or thread that would require ones attention to be reviewed. It would be for all stories one is an editor of. I think that would be a good add on because it would take it from the Notifications where there could be anywhere from 1 to 100 or more depending on how many stories you favorited and people you follow. It would help them out since it would take the time away from them to read each notification and see if they is any they need to review. Who else likes this idea?

I do see where you want to go with this. As a reader myself, it would bring function to the story. For chapter creation on the story, it would require the user who help creates chapters for it to have the integrity to follow it.

I would suggest to do that slightly different.
I would use the small triangle on top right and mark it with the red sign with number (same sign as shown at notifications)
By clicking on it, the dropdown opens. Then there should be the same (slightly smaller) sign at the "Review Chapters"

As far as I know, that function is already implemented, but not unlocked yet (I think it's still in testing phase). The preview of the actual chyoa version shows something about -> fourth picture

Here is an idea. Add a filter to your search. For example you could search for love and than without incest so you would get everything with love that does not include incest

Hi, I had to re enable adblock because of the popups. The banners were kind of annoying because they stuck to the page and made it hard to navigate but whatever, I could deal. The problem was that I was finding 3-5 popups in the background of my system whenever I came back to my browser from doing something else and it is really annoying.

My main suggestion would be to use the ads that sit on the side of the page where there is no important stuff, that way you can put up big persistent ads without alienating your readers too much to use them.

I noticed that the rating system is little faulty:

f.e. In story with 30 threads, 20 different people marks threads with 'like'... lets say 24 times (that's a total of 24 likes for story – just to be clear), then comes a person (one), who for some reasons (just or not) didn't like the story and marked all (30) threads with dislike. That basically makes story's ratting below average and basically making the rating of story... less than accurate (in some cases).

A more accurate method (IMAO) of searching good stories (maybe more accurate would be word 'popular') would be adding a filter for 'search by number of favourites', to search engine.

    Just an idea/suggestion.

I would like to see some method of backtracking a thread, so I can go through the right choices to get to a post. I guess it would be cheating in the traditional chyoa sense, but I want to follow the longer thread lines without walking into deadends.

You mean rather than navigating from the Story Map from the beginning to your chapter of choice?

  20. I sincerely suggest that the 18+ rule be removed.

It's not a legal requirement in most places (any that I'm aware of) for fictional stories to have 18+ characters (because, hey, they're fictional), and to be quite honest, 75-80% of the cartoon/anime/TV/etc... based stories don't meet the requirements, they just don't EXPLICITLY break them. I wanted to add to the story Normality, and even went so far as to add a disclaimer about how my thread took place in an AU where all characters were 18+ even though they appeared as they did in the original series, and it was rejected (even though another branch in that same story has the MC fucking a girl explicitly labeled as "about 16"). Until this rule is removed I'm just going to keep adding to the ones where I break the site rules "un-explicitly" and transfer my "explicitly" breaking them chapters to other sites, including taking/copying the original story's ideas to make them fit, if necessary.
