Try to think in terms of cost. Yeah, they can control minds, but every action has an equal and opposite reaction. What is the reaction?

Another way to approach it is not to think of it in terms of raw strength, but in terms of presence. You sometimes see fans argue about whether superhero X or superhero Y would win in a fight, but that's a nonsensical question. You don't engage in a fight just for the sake of it...

...you do it *for* something, and in a lot of cases, the person who is willing to pay the highest *price* for victory is the one who'll win.

If you believe you're fighting for your life, but the other person is fighting for the $50 bucks in your wallet, then that person will either give up, of they'll have a Very Bad Time.

So what situations is your mind controller willing to make their stand, come what may?

So far I've been pondering about making the story be about "classic" fictional hypnosis. A slow process that is slow means that the subject is either willing or somehow captive for a period of time. That works as a limiter to what they can do even if they get power hungry.

Also thought of making the MC a woman, but now I fear again that I have violated too many core concepts of mind control stories and this cost me most of the potential readers.
