I'm not sure how recently it happened, but I went to check out the tier to get a story featured and found the Patreon link now says, "this page has been removed."

I'm sure the owners of the site are already aware of this, and have probably considered it already, but I wanted to suggest using an alternate site like SubscribeStar. They don't get as much traffic, but they also don't have the same policies against incest, non-con, and that kind of thing.

Perhaps there are even better ways to keep the lights on, but at the minimum, I enjoy this site quite a bit and hope to see it continue!

I assumed my Patreon account was compliant and was surprised when I received your email today.

Therefore, I would like to appeal.

CHYOA is a website where users are free to write and read their own and others’ erotic stories. We only develop the software and are solely a platform provider. The content on CHYOA is user generated.

You write that we glorify violence (“we have zero tolerance for the glorification of sexual violence, and this includes depictions of sexualized minors, non-consensual sex, incest, and bestiality"). This is not true. We have strict rules that we actively enforce.

You can find our rules here: https://chyoa.com/chapter/Rules.560688. Amongst these rules, we do not allow stories depicting underage sex, bestiality, or excessive violence.

The excessive violence rule is specifically designed to prohibit the glorification of violence.

We are also very strict with underage content and do not allow any representations with persons under the age of 18.

Please see the linked rules page. We have listed in detail what is allowed and what is forbidden. We have developed our rules over the years to cover edge cases and provide clarity.

Each story is approved by a moderation team before it is visible to other users. Furthermore, there is a reporting system through which every user can report questionable content. Reports are usually processed within one or two days, chapters are locked and the authors are informed with a request for changes. If a report is received from a registered user, they are usually informed of the decision with a reason.

If there is a specific reason why you have come to this decision, please let me know. I'm always interested in improvements.

Sadly, it was probably the incest and noncon that did it. I know of many NSFW projects that have had to migrate to something like SubscribeStar where the rules are a little more lax.

I'm not sure how someone like the creator of Corruption of Champions(https://www.patreon.com/user?u=121401) can get away with making interactive fiction and being paid thousands of dollars a month that also has noncon themes, but Chyoa can't*. I'm guessing just the general visibility of it.

*(Don't get me wrong. I enjoy Fenoxo's work and it's great he has found so much success)
 
It's also the reason why so many erotic Patreon-supported games have unofficial ("unofficial") incest patches.

(...Though if you check the code (which I do often (for some reason (don't ask (oh god)))), you find it often doesn't amount to much more than setting 'incest = true'.)

Got a reply from Patreon today. It looks like we'll have to look for another solution. Thanks everyone!

As the Trust and Safety team only removes accounts for serious and/or repeated violations of our Terms and Guidelines, we will not accept your appeal at this time — You will need to proceed with a new project for a couple of months off of Patreon before we can consider your return to the platform.

After this, you can write back into [email protected], and the Trust and Safety team can review your new content up against our Terms and Guidelines for the launch of a new Patreon page.

With that said, any new page opened without the Trust and Safety team's review will be suspended.

Because your page was removed due to guidelines violations, it is not possible to retrieve past content, nor to reactivate your page.

If you have any additional questions about reinstatement, our Terms, or Guidelines, please let me know and I can answer them for you.

The quoted response from Patreon stated "we do not allow pornographic content," which would make it impossible for CHYOA to use Patreon since CHYOA is a porn story database.

The statement about not allowing "pornographic content" is an outrageous lie on Patreon's part since they literally host thousands of porn games. I personally support several porn games on Patreon. That said, if they don't want CHYOA's business then I see no reason why CHYOA should continue to support them. Just switch to Subscribestar instead since they don't seem to object to getting business there and also don't seem to censor content.

Yes, this statement also irritated me because it clearly deviates from their rules. Since you can't talk to Patreon, there is unfortunately no way to find a solution together.
