Domino City Duel Academy

While Adam begins to look for a floorplan, the camera labeled "Entrance" suddenly goes to a black screen. He is disappointed to find that the only files stored by the computer are recordings of the camera feeds. The terminal has little access to anything else.

 

"Shit, the entrance cam just went dark. I figure that could be good...or really bad. Either way, nothing more for us here." He looks to see if there are any usb's he could use to save the camera recordings, but if there aren't he just leaves with Seth.

 

Julia began to channel....a little hesitant, but also waiting. She didn't want to hit Felicia by accident or disrupt her momentum, but the teacher was well aware that she wasn't exactly built to be throwing down. If she had some ability to make her move it would be best to do it in a not potentially lethal way, simply going for the less interesting, but effective route she had in mind of attempting to conjure up some ice and reshape it into a single sharp point to deliver into the guard's leg, but holding off until she was confident about having a clear shot.

Although the stairs and small landing make finding her footing difficult, Felicia drives into the guard's ribs with her shin. Turning into the powerful kick, the student's strike forces the gun-carrying woman into the concrete wall. Julia steps to the side to obtain a clear line of sight to the suited thug.

The professor forms a spike of solid ice from thin air, firing it at the guard with the speed of a bullet. It embeds itself into the woman's thigh. She promptly collapses into the corner, unconscious. The ice slowly begins to melt. Seconds later, the group's invisibility wears off, revealing the quartet to each other once more.

 

With the guard subdued, Julia was quick to searching her for a keycard, but also searching the woman for handcuffs or anything she might have to keep her restrained for when she wakes up. She should be mostly fine. Her injuries didn’t seem that bad and mostly just out from the shock of the pain, but it would be a problem if she got up later.

 

Finding no data storage devices lying about, the jailbreakers step through the next threshold. The are met with a hallway resembling the one they found outside of their cells, but these walls are grey instead of bearing than that bright, white hue. It stretches on for something like ten meters (~33 feet), with a gap leading to another corridor halfway down this hall on the right. The first door on the left reads "Medical." The next is labeled "Quartermaster." On the right, the nearest door states "Range" and the second proclaims "Mess Hall." The doors farther down the hall are too far to read from here.

 

"Phew." Letting out a sigh as they ambush worked out, Felicia lets Julia search the guard. Standing back, and watching the metal door just in case anyone else decided to check on the broken camera.

 

Stepping over the rifle which had fallen to the ground in the skirmish, Julia finds a blue keycard bearing a picture of the guard. Her name and rank, Private First Class Antonia Pereira, are printed above the portrait. Below the woman's headshot, a line of text reads "1st Company, CTOE." The woman's unconscious body also carries a holstered sidearm, a small number of magazines meant for her rifle and pistol, an individual first aid kit, an earpiece, and a ziptie. Julia uses the last item to secure Antonia's hands behind the woman's back.

Felicia detects nothing more of note about the door. Thankfully, no one else opens it to investigate the camera, at least not yet.

 

Julia slowly slides the pistol out and holds onto it. She wasn't trained with it, but it was better to have than relying on magic too much. They weren't exactly equip to deal with armed guards that well so they'd have to do this carefully.

They'd have to be careful, knowing that unlike those cultists, these people we're more interested in physical weaponary than shadow games, but that did stick out to her as she slid the keycard into the reader to wait for it's response.

"Armed guards? They're much better equip, but doesn't it seem a little odd to you? They seem much more reliant on mundane technology than magical artifacts or wards like the cultists. I take it that means only a select few of them actually have those kinds of abilities. It could be more dangerous to deal with ones that don't. They won't bother with shadow games, all they have to fight is ordinary weapons, so they won't hesitate in using them."

 

"Yeah, that's surprising. Though, it makes more sense really." Felicia replied to Julia's concern about armed guards. "But still, someone's powerful enough to cast a sleeping curse on Destiny, so we can't expect that they only have mundane weapons." She adds, "More than that, what exactly would they want with Adam?" Then she raises the question why their friend was kidnapped in the first place.

 

Adam looks to his new partner, gesturing towards the door. "Any of these interest you, or should we just keep going?" He looks at the quartermaster's door, thinking. I have two guns, so I hardly need any more, but maybe they'll have some magical Egyptian crap?

 

“He has left to speak to that woman, so it possibly ties into his dreams, I suppose.” Julia was voicing her speculation out loud. “At the very least, they must believe in them enough to bother with all of this. While it doesn’t seem to be the average, there’s at least a few with abilities and considerably powerful ones at that.”

Julia waited for the card to read.

 

"Wait." Yoko pokes Julia's shoulder. "The one we're here for, Adam, he spoke with a woman in his dreams, then left to meet her, and now we're rescuing him?" She snickers. "He eloped with an imaginary friend!" The purple-haired mage laughs, though she has the wherewithal to keep it quiet.

After the first attempt at reading the card fails, a second swipe opens the steel door. After turning a corner, a wide, empty hallway greets the quartet.

Both Julia and Felicia see yet another security camera watching the length of the walkway. They can also hear footsteps approaching from around the far corner where the hallway bends to the right.

 

"They do not." Seth says quietly. "Do what you will. I will escape." The man with the Rod continues to walk down the hallway, sticking to the shadows as much as he can.

 

"There's another camera. What're we going to do?" Felicia asked, "We'll also have company if we stay here. Should we attempt another ambush?" She adds, looking at her companions. While trying to focus, and gauge how many people are approaching.

 

"Alright, let's stick together, then." Adam nods and keeps moving along the hallway.

[Felicia got a crit. success, so I'll give her that information. I should have put it in the previous post.]

"Hide around the corner and attack if we must?" Yoko suggests, whispering.
Counting the number of footfalls she hears in quick successsion, Felicia estimates that a group of at least three people are growing nearer.

 

"That would be our best option. We have to pick our conflicts carefully. We really can't deal with a direct engagement against armed combatants here."

 

As they near the T-intersection with the corridor branching both ahead and to the right, Adam can now make out the labels on the remaining doors. They are, in order of nearest to farthest, the Briefing Room, Operations, and Command.

 

"There's about three people coming. Do you think we can take them?" Felicia asked, sticking to the walls to try and hide her presence. "What are the chances they'll miss us?" She asked, though with the camera, even if they do manage to fool the guards, they'll still be caught once they try to leave their current position.
