This is my primary reason for wanting to be able to change it back.To give a reason as to why side comments are preferred, readers can put in their thoughts while reading the chapter. This is often very useful when it comes to longer chapters and I think it leads to more detailed comments overall
I think making it an option would be the best way to handle this.
I’d consider that an acceptable compromise.I'm a big fan of the new, more prominent positioning of comments... but the above posts do make a valid point. Maybe a second 'add comment' form in the sidebar could be the best of both worlds?
Having posted comment s at the bottom might work better for reading. Arguments above apply more to the location of the form to post the comments. Though, I have found more fun comments worth reading and even replying to than spoilers by seeing them in the sidebar when reading the chapter. In the sidebar, the width is quite limited, so you might have to scroll a lot to get through them.
In the sidebar, it might also lead to readers accidentally reading something from the comments that might be a spoiler.
And this is why I asked for an option to change it back for those of us who really dislike the new location and not rolling back the feature entirely so people who do like the new can keep it.In the sidebar, the width is quite limited, so you might have to scroll a lot to get through them.
In the sidebar, it might also lead to readers accidentally reading something from the comments that might be a spoiler.
This honestly would be a great compromise if you can't have the option for both. A place on the sidebar for writing comments and previous comments posted below.Having posted comment s at the bottom might work better for reading. This does seem to be the best option.Maybe a compromise could be to add a comment button to the sidebar which sticks the comment box to the bottom of the screen. This would keep the improved readability and spoiler prevention, but also make it possible to write comments while looking at a certain part of the story.
Almost perfect, just one issue:Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I’ve now added the comment count/stat to the sidebar, together with the other stats, and also added a Write comment link there.
Clicking the comment count will scroll/jump down to the comment section. Clicking Write comment opens the comment form as a floating box at the bottom of the screen, so you can write while still looking at the chapter.
I hope this solves the main issue here. Let me know what you think.
