I talked about this in the goal thread, but current plan is to finish off all the 9.1 chapters, and then begin to taper things off - I want to continue the most popular storylines to 20 chapters, but let the unpopular options die off naturally, possibly with bad ends. My current thought process on this is: - Finish all the 9.1 chapters - Try for an average of two chapters a night (as normal) - Any 9.1 chapter with 5 or more likes gets a 10.1 chapter - Any 9.1 chapter with less than 5 likes gets an ending chapter - When all the 10.1 chapters are finished, same process applies, but with 10.1 and 11.1, etc. - Any 9.1 chapter with an ending that gets up to 5 likes gets a 10.1 chapter, etc. It still doesn't mean there's an end in sight, since there are literally hundreds of chapters left to write - but it would help winnow down the number of storylines to the most popular, and would give some endings so no storylines are just hanging out there unfinished forever and ever. And of course this should not discourage anyone else from writing their own chapters, especially if they don't like an ending. Thoughts, concerns, rotten tomatoes? Make sense? Still thinking about the Plan Going Forward. I like the general idea of chapters with 5 or more likes getting a continuation and chapters with less than 5 getting an ending. Other thoughts: 1) If a branch ends, but later on it gets more votes, there can be a continuation. So for example, 9.1 Lose The Shirt is currently sitting at 4 votes. Under the current schema, it would get a 10.1 chapter to end it - but if it later got up to 5 votes, it would get a 10.2 continuation (which would then face its own eventual ending/continuation based on votes). 2) Any chapter that gets 10 or more likes gets a second option - as has been typical up through chapter 8. So for example, 9.1 What is this Place? has 17 likes, so it would get a 10.1 and a 10.2 - and if 10.1 gets 5+ likes it gets an 11.1 option, and if 10.2 gets 5+ likes it gets an 11.1 option, etc. This might create more work in the long run, but it's not terrible. 3) All ending chapters are marked "End:" in the title. Just so everybody knows that branch is ended (unless upvoted). Still looking for general end chapters at 20.1, but am playing it by ear - this current schema will be good for months of writing.
Okay, so 385 chapters in, and every story branch is up to chapter 9.1 Advancement is now going to focus on the most popular branches, as determined by likes...I may need a spreadsheet to help keep track of this... [/edit] Made spreadsheet. So, there's 128 chapter 9.1s at the moment, of which 42 meet the criteria for continuation, and the rest are slated for ending if they don't get enough votes. Of course, that includes the chapters I just posted today, so no rush to go around ending things right away - I'll do the continuations for the 10.1s first, then start writing endings as I wait for things to tally. I might also do 9.2 chapters for any 8.x chapter that has 10+ likes since, that seems fair. Weighting things based on bookmarks would be tricky, but might be worth it...dunno, if anyone cares, let me know what you think.
Much easier with the spreadsheet, and response has been positive so far (though I haven't written any endings). Going for most-likes first for writing 9.2 and 10.1 chapters - with bookmarks used to weight the totals. So if, for example, there are two chapters that both have 15 likes, and one has three bookmarks and the other has one bookmark, then the chapter with 3 bookmarks gets a continuation first. tl;dr: if you want to see more of a particular thread, like and bookmark. Long way to go yet, but it's fun to see what chapters people really liked and which ones people either haven't read or don't care for. Part of this is, I think, a reflection of how I was writing them originally - Blaze got more love than Lex Luthor, and Etrigan is a little more popular than red kryptonite - but I think it offers good opportunities to continue the storylines people want to read without sacrificing breadth or creativity. Although get back to me in a few weeks when I might have to start writing the first ending chapters. I have some ideas for how to handle things, but I fear they're all going to come across as somewhat truncated...but you never know.
Just crossed over 400 chapters. Focusing on the most liked/bookmarked chapters seems to be doing relatively well as far as reader engagement goes. No real comments, but likes and bookmarks are up. Still plenty of chapters to write - I haven't gotten down to the point where I'm writing endings for the chapter 9's that fall below the threshold of five likes yet, and probably won't for weeks at this current rate. Still meditating on how best to handle that, but all things in time.
Progress...pretty good, so far. The spreadsheet continues to be very useful and I think it helps narrow down the directions readers want to see the story go in, which is good because there aren't many comments or other input. At this rate, the list should eventually whittle down so that people see faster updates on the most popular branches, but I'm still following likes/bookmarks on that, so it's a little sketchy. Some numbers: There are currently 141 Chapter 9s; a few more may crop up if some of the chapter 8s get enough votes for a second option, but that seems pretty stable right now. Only 14 chapter 9s currently have enough likes (10+) for a second option, and 81 chapters have less than the minimum likes (5) for a continuation - so when I get to the last of the 5 vote likes, I'll probably go back and do second options for the chapter 9s with 10+ likes, then start writing endings for the rest. There are currently 23 chapter 10s; only two of them have reached the threshold for a second option (10+), and 12 are below the threshold for continuation - although I expect that to shrink as people read and like/favorite them, since some have only been posted recently. There are currently 4 chapter 11s, which is as deep as the story gets - two of those have reached the threshold for continuation (5+), and the other two are close (4 likes each). Again I expect that to go up. Is it a good percentage? Well, it means that roughly half of the chapters I write are liked enough that people want to see more of them. Considering that it's a moderated fanfiction story with roughly a bazillion different fetishes at this point, that's probably not that bad, although the specialization means that a few folks might get turned off trying to find any particular chapter. I'm not sure how length or plot is grabbing people; the more fappable chapters are obviously more popular, but don't exactly drive the story along.
And we hit 12 chapters deep, with 441 chapters in total. There are nine more chapters with 6 likes that haven't had sequels yet; once those are done (assuming more likes don't push other chapters to higher priority), I'll get to work on continuing chapters for those chapter 9's and above with 5 likes...and after that there are some chapter 9's with 10+ likes that I'll do second options for. I want to give every opportunity for the other chapters to get a chance to earn a continuation rather than an end, but some of them just aren't capturing the readers' imaginations - there are nine Chapter 9's with 0 likes or bookmarks, for example, and Autofellatio appears to be unloved as well. On the plus side, all the chapter 11's are getting good attention by comparison - as the chapter depth increases, the time between updates should decrease, and hopefully they'll get more attention. There's also a couple Chapter 8's which are close to earning a second option - Her Mother, Demonic Drugs, and A Temple are all sitting at 9 likes each - but those are a low priority, considering they all have one option posted already.
The story's interesting, and I've been enjoying some of the threads. Overall good work, and I really have to praise your dedication to the story. It's not easy putting in the time, and your effort has been amazing. Thanks for sharing, thanks for writing. Don't know if I'll join in, nothing's really fired my imagination yet. (Not a huge DC fan, I'm sorry to say.)

Alright, all the first options for chapters with 6 likes are done (at least until the next upvotes get in), so next up is the chapters with 5 likes - and 5 likes is the threshold for getting a continuation. So the plan is that after those are finished, I'll go back and do the second options for chapters with 10+ likes (which includes basically all of the most-liked chapters at this point)...and then, depending on how the likes fall out, it'll be time to start writing "endings" for chapters with <5 likes. One thing I sort of suspected might happen is that we're getting an outlier branch - a branch which is picking up likes fast enough that I'm writing sequel chapters to it faster than other branches. So while there are 50 Chapter 10s, there are 9 chapter 11s, 3 chapter 12s, 1 chapter 13 and 1 chapter 14. It's not even that I particularly even like that branch, but apparently it's attracted enough attention that people are liking and bookmarking it, and when it crosses the threshold it goes to the top of the queue as far as chapters to write. With 5 likes and a bookmark, it's currently hovering near the top of the queue for yet another update. I kinda figured something like that might happen, but it's not a huge deal. Every branch will get an ending...

477 chapters. Didn't get any writing done this weekend, as I was out of town. A spate of likes shifted the spreadsheet a little, so we're still not out of the 6s. That happens sometimes when you've got a fan that does an archive binge... Currently looking at: Chapter X: Total (above threshold for sequel) Chapter 9: 144 (70) Chapter 10: 54 (21) Chapter 11: 11 (9) Chapter 12: 7 (3) Chapter 13: 2 (2) Chapter 14: 1 (1) Chapter 15: 1 (1) Chapter 16: 1 (1) Which still seems like hundreds of chapters, and it is, but you have to remember that anything below the threshold just gets an ending, and all storylines are planned to naturally conclude at 20 chapters. Even if the stories generate likes faster than I can write, the chapter 20-cap should mean that eventually it'll all end. We might get to a thousand chapters, but not much more than that at this rate, I think.
And we're at 500 chapters. Another branch has pulled out to 16 chapters, which is going to be the marriage storyline - not a lot of sex in I Will Marry You because of plot demands, but I guarantee it will get lewder later. I'm still working my way through continuations for chapters with 5 likes - because we're so near the continuation threshold (5 likes guarantees another chapter, so 6 or more likes kicks it to the top of the cue) this makes it easier for certain branches to "break out" and receive relatively more sequels in a shorter period of time. Once the 5's are done, then the second options for the chapters with 10+ likes are next...and finally after all that, if the spreadsheet hasn't changed drastically (always possible if somebody does a binge-read and likes a lot of chapters), the endings start for the least-popular chapters. So we stand at: Chapter X: Total (written/above threshold for sequel) Chapter 9: 144 (63/70) Chapter 10: 64 (16/24) Chapter 11: 16 (8/10) Chapter 12: 8 (6/7) Chapter 13: 6 (2/4) Chapter 14: 2 (2/2) Chapter 15: 2 (2/2) Chapter 16: 2 (0/1)
And we hit our first final chapter, End: Take Me In The Ass, which comes at the end of the Blaze/Impregnation/Wedding branch - I might consider doing epilogues if it gets enough likes, but as of now I do not plan to do that, since there's still a lot of other branches that need to get 20 chapters deep first.
Currently sitting at 534 chapters. Had another runaway branch which almost made it to the end - the pregnant-Lois-sex-is-she-dreaming? arc is sitting at chapter 19 Get Fucked with 4 likes and a bookmark. Under these circumstances, it'll get a continuation by default - all branches get an ending if they have less than 5 likes, it's just a question of when we get down that far in the list. I've been going back and forth on that one whether Lois has been dreaming a good part of events (influenced by the idol) or if they're really happening...room for both endings, though at this rate I doubt we'll see both. Otherwise, been making general headway, sometimes with diversions because likes shift which chapter is at the top of the pile. A fair number of those recent chapters have less sex and more plot, which may be an element to it, or maybe the prose is less exciting than before. Hard to tell. Still, I suspect when I eventually chew through the chapters with 5+ likes and revisit doing the second options for chapters with 10+ likes, we might see more movement. If not...well, a lot of branches are going to end relatively earlier. Not ideal, but I can work with that. Also, debating what the threshold should be trigger an "epilogue" for a branch that hits the full 20 chapters. Anybody have thoughts on that?
