Naughty, naughty Zoot! You must punish her! It would be especially Stephen King if the drifter finds out the rival fellows' hidden desires and gives them the key to (ruin their lives? remove themselves? fulfill their dreams?) by breaking away from their not-completely-fulfilling lives. Makes me think of the thrill killer in Agatha Christie's "Curtain" who never murders anyone but knows just what to say to loose the uneasily slumbering devil in his agents. But play this more ambiguously, without the need for murder.
Since it hasn't been mentioned yet: Prison. Male guard in women's prison (And of course the gender roles can be changed for Femdom or gay/lesbian story as well.) getting all kinds of attention from the inmates. I know it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but it is an idea for a harem... This one would be heavily Dom/sub themed (if we are keeping it consensual although legally speaking relationship between a guard and prisoner is kinda iffy from the consent point of view as the balance of power between them kinda makes it so that the prisoner might not be in position to refuse.) Variations: Particularly with western theme it could be the Sheriff who has a bunch of women in the tiny cell in the sheriff's office. Various prison camps are also possible. Other ideas: Fantasy/historical: A nobleman and his servants and concubines. (The title is "Harem" how come people never write about actual harems in these?) Modern: Businessman/CEO and employees. Gangster/mobster and his "underlings." Also, this doesn't have to do with this thread but I haven't been on the site in months so I decided to come back and check how things are here. Lot's of promising developments in the stories I had bookmarked. I might have to write a thread or two myself as well...

I love Patzo's Gothic mansion idea: Imagine for example the hero's shock at discovering that his family fortune is based not on the import of Tea and spices from the Indies, but rather the export of pretty young English women to the harems of the Ottoman Turks.
Actually, I started a story that was a variation on the Gothic harem idea but set in the modern world when I was writing for Lit, let me see if I can dig it out of the files...

I'm beginning a harem-style story myself. It's still pretty early, but I'm working on fleshing it out further in my spare time. It's a 2nd person story where the reader can select the tenants for a 12 bedroom house and pick out whatever influences they prefer. It's called "The Lease" and I'm currently working on a thread for a Milf and her two daughters. I'm also looking to add some threads about a hot goth chick as well.
Mmm, this ones got me thinking, nice suggestion. My story idea goes along fem-dom lines, cause that's how I roll. Idea is the protagonist being hired to work as a teacher at a remote womens prison, remote enough that staff stay on site while on duty, (maybe somewhere in the moorland of England), where he discovers that he's the only man. As the only man around he's pretty popular, and ends up getting involved with various guards and staff, being blackmailed into screwing various groups of prisoners (who are bickering and in fighting among themselves, and the protagonist and "access" to him becomes a part of their squabbles). Getting more ideas as I type, I think I might have a go at this one, thanks for the suggestion!

Does it have to be a guy with a harem of women? Some of these ideas are more flexible, and in an choose your own adventure story you can have a single setting with a choice of PoV characters. A straight, bi, or gay man, or a straight, bi, or gay woman, all operating in the same location.
Strictly speaking there's nothing that says harems HAVE to always be focused on a guy with lots of women, but they generally not as favored.
Apocalypse setting After a worldwide catastrophe (deadly virus or sth.) some survivors are forming a group. One man and some women with different social background and education. If he is self confident, he can lead the group, while some of the woman try to benefit from a good relationship with their leader. Others may fight their loneliness or just want to get hugged. Science Fiction / Alternate Universe A setting in an alternate universe (partly inspired by an episode of a tv series) Due to a genetic defect, the birth rate of males is low (maybe 1 to 1000) for some hundred of years, and is still decreasing. (test-tube fertilization isn't invented yet or doesn't work properly) In this centuries society changed. Women are living together and lesbian sex is just normal. Sexual contacts with men are restricted. Women above 18 can apply for a sexual contact wit a man, which could granted within their fertile days. (to keep population constant, maybe the most women only have sex with a men once in a year) In most lands men have to live in fertilization camps (kind of male whores), where they have to "serve" their clients (maybe 2 or 3 per day). Creampie is statutory. For persons of high society it could be easier to get an appointment (imagine a 50yo senator with her 48yo wife (and maybe their 18yo lover or daughter) meeting a man just for fun, though they aren't fertile during the visit. Maybe some VIPs could have their own man at home...) There are still wars, but now they are mostly raids to steal men from other countries. Besides that some rebel groups fight against the authorities and try to free the "stallions". Then they live with them in the underground and have a voice, who they want to fuck. In this groups also different sexual positions are allowed (anal, "waste" of cum, ...), though it depends on the specific group (controversial issue). Some groups fight for the human rights (of the male whores), others just want personal benefits. At the start, i could imagine two options: 1. The protagonist lands in that universe as a side effect of a failed experiment. (science fiction) 2. He is born in that universe and grew up in a male boarding school (seperated area of the fertilization camps). At age of 18 he gets a maturity party, where he will have sex for the first time (maybe with a group of girls to choose from) In both cases the protagonist could switch between fractions (get caught by authority, get freed by rebels (, get found by normal citizen after landing in the alternate universe)), and love and/or hate his situation.
