The biggest plus for side comments is that you can write your thoughts down while reading the chapter, this is especially helpful with longer chapters. Personally I just think it should be an option so people can pick what they want.

The current weekly story I'm doing is 3000+ words per chapter minimum, so no, I don't think your excessively long with that. I saw some freaks produce 10k bangers. Really depends on your style.

To give a reason as to why side comments are preferred, readers can put in their thoughts while reading the chapter. This is often very useful when it comes to longer chapters and I think it leads to more detailed comments overall I think making it an option would be the best way to handle this.

Yeah, that's my view on things as well. If it's clearly declared to be AI written, then fine. I'm using AI pictures in my stories, so I can't throw too many stones, but I'm definitely not wasting my time on reading it.
