I think sometimes the speaker tags are a nice way to get across some things, but these should be used in moderation so that every quote isn't surrounded by twice the number of words that could have been replaced by just writing the quote in a more descriptive manner.

Views also dropped a lot, but not as much as likes did. In the 10 days before I posted the last chapter, the story got about 1000 views/day. Afterwards: 340 views/day. Whereas it went from 148 likes/day in the same 10 days, to zero, zip, nada.

I think it's a matter of repeat senders; someone can view a chapter multiple times (I think, anyways) but only like it once. Also, aside from front page priviledge, the audience for any recent chapters are gonna be the people who actually enjoy you as an author and have notifications on for you, who are WAY more likely to leave a like.

I think another aspect is that you need an account to leave likes, people who come to the site often are more likely to have an account, and people who come to the site often are more likely to see your story early than people who don't.

Then when you stop posting updates, your readers-with-accounts stop reading (because they've already read everything), and your likes stop coming in too.

There are moments when it works okay. Gamestory mode, where YOU are the hero, for example.

Do note that outside of the actual context, it is also really interesting to imagine a world where a writer can subliminal a reader into truly experiencing a story like that.

...for minutes at a time, doing absolutely fuck-all. Isn't the point of watching a camgirl that there's interaction between performer and audience, that it's not just a video being replayed? Every time, after like 30 seconds without any dialogue or activity at all, I was like, well, this is fucking boring, let's try another.

The point for Camgirl, is to get the audience into paying them. If you are watching a free stream, they'll occasionally chat with you and try to get you into tipping them or paying for the private room or whatever the site has. ...Then they do more sexy stuff to keep you in there.

I mean, I'm not trying to kink shame anyone. If the notion of waking up one random morning as a literal god with unlimited power does it for you, all good! I just don't understand it. Building UP to unlimited power over time, that I get. But starting out with it? Where's the challenge? Where's the progression?

I think for an author that just wants to write a scene of "This guy doing this thing to that girl," it's easier to let the issue of 'how tho' rot away and turn to dust than it is to write a whole new Fire Emblem just to get to the good bits. Though I do agree that the build-up is often better than the climax.

I think that’s just most writers tbh. Most people put themselves into the shoes of who they write, and it can be difficult to understand that you need a level of separation to make an interesting story. Don’t get me wrong, some of my favorite stories here are blokes getting incredibly lucky to some capacity, but I like it much more when there are obstacles as well!

Maybe you should ask for your step-brother for help? I hear that in many adult films that is the suggested solution to people getting stuck. /s

As for the Wicker situation... there's a lot I wanna say there, but as far as objective facts go, Wicker runs the Image Inspiration story, which has a very simple formula of "[image > short chapter > image] repeat_forever"
He also seems to be very involved in the celebrity deepfake section of the site, which takes up a good chunk of stories.

Holy, that’s pretty wild! I always find it sad to start stories and find they’re unfinished (which happens a looot lol). It makes a lot more sense now that I see it laid out in your post. Kinda wish the adopt-a-story program was more popular, because that could cure this problem a lot, yes?

For me personally, starting a new story is where most of the fun is. I've tried to write sequels or endings to other people's stories, and I've never succeeded. What I have a shortage of is not ideas; it's time to turn those ideas into fully fledged stories.

And I assume that's true for most writers! Otherwise, we wouldn't have so many unfinished stories.

...But unfortunately the story I've been working on is not suitable for CHYOA. So it goes.

I have other ideas, though, so still hoping I'll manage to put at least 1 proper CHYOA story together this year. But no promises.

Potentially, or they thought people would read their stories only to get no readers. I found an author once who deleted his account because no female on this site would contact him - true story.
