That's going to be fairly subjective; personally, I tend to need a lot of narrative build-up and one or two of my favorite kinks - and what I find sexy you might find overly mechanical. One of my more popular sex scene chapters, for example, is buried eight chapters deep in a story and without that plot driving it might not do anything for you.

This is something I've been thinking about a lot - the way I've been writing, I've also been trying to build up tension or anticipation a bit before a payoff, and I keep worrying I'm taking too long to get into the action. It's good to know I'm not on totally the wrong track for everyone!
