Really Really Experienced
One thing about Kendra I'd like to say is that she, at least on my main thread, hates the way Shawn treats her, but she can't break away because she somewhat loves him and that in turn causes her to be submissive towards him. On my storyline, you'll see her undermining Shawn's plan regarding Victoria in a more subtle way (I'm working on that scene and the others that happen during the BBQ), and then later Kurt will be instrumental on helping her break the toxic relationship she has with Shawn.
Ah, right right, I see. So she's fully aware of it, but then her battered partner's syndrome creeps in. In that sense, it may be her subconscious that's calling the shots against Shawn, as consciously she's become uncertain of herself again. Their initial meeting must've been one of Shawn's finest psychological contortions, and maybe it worked wonderfully because, well, it was partially true:
That could be something that got Shawn and Kendra interested in each other to start with: they both felt like outsiders in high school, long after other kids had stopped bullying them. I always liked duskford's touch that Peter remembers Kendra being "short tempered" before she dated Shawn. I was gonna say dating him actually made Kendra nicer, but maybe that's just, like you said, suppressing herself. And duskford, I tried to seed some of that in my Kendra/Kurt thread: she obeys his orders, but she's not happy that he treats her as someone to order around rather than as a girlfriend or partner, and yet whatever good times they shared are enough to keep her bound to him. So the question is, what'll it take to make her break off such a toxic relationship?
Maybe Kendra is the only person Shawn could've cared about because he understands her to a degree, and losing her, meaning for him losing control over her, is almost losing a close confidant. And Shawn is childish. Meanwhile, Kendra, while subconsciously understanding the Shawn is bad news over all, consciously senses that understanding, and maybe there are very few, fleeting times when they connect. And maybe she justifies that to herself over how she was bullied before. "They never understood me, at least Shawn can." Kendra needs to experience more of the world outside of the length of Shawn's arms, and she needs to consciously act against him. It may not be a pretty sight (my money is that it certainly won't -- henrytemp makes that clear), but her subsumed resent needs to bust free. I just hope that Kurt or Dustin (my favorite choices) are up to the task.
That's where I picture Azure Rocks being too, Patzo. A fun fact, I've originally conceived Azure Rocks with a beach, but then I figured that with both a large park and a beach it'd make it too much of a magnet for tourists. But then again, it could've been fun, to see random, different characters popping up in town.
Reminds me a bit of the North Shore in Massachusetts, like the relatively quiet Manchester-by-the-sea out in the woods with lakes and rivers, next to the big and popular Crane Beach. I didn't picture Azure Rocks being in New England (I really didn't have a place in mind), but it makes sense.
Hey, once you get started on the sequel, you could always send the gang to the beach for a few days, and they can meet new people while working on their tans.
Somehow, I picture Heather in a string bikini teasing some guy by posing sexily and making random noises while focusing her attention on a book she's reading. And that she manages to do both flawlessly while he becomes hopelessly flustered.
