I had a feeling Boarchiel could backfire You did well Yulia, you almost saved the day by stopping Lem. Nobody is to fault here... this floor is just becoming an issue it seems. We as a whole have failed this floor. There's no getting around it, so now we need to have a solution to go forward. Just like the angel floor I wonder if the Great Mind could get us an out just by having Yulia visit. Clearly (Unless there's a game reason that I'm not aware of) if Lem and the Great Mind wanted Yulia to meet then they could have captured her just now and forced them together. Instead Yulia is able to return safely along with her party. We do need to check once again for mimics though... which is not fun for anyone. Yulia please cut each of them a little bit to draw some blood to confirm. I, however, am not against talking to Liloth and going down the other path, but we are once again dealing with some heavy penalties that way as well... not to mention trusting the Tower Below. That path however does have a bit more straight forwardness to it, but it's combat oriented and Yulia is clearly not going to be nearly as helpful. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone in the party is going to be weakened after that loss. If we decide to talk to Liloth and forgo the mind eaters completely then maybe we need to go full vigilante with the town. Here's the plan: There has to be a mayor in town correct? We as for an audience with the mayor, all by the books. Once we are all in the room with him we explain the situation while someone quickly makes a small cut to draw blood, do not let him/her hid it >_>. Once he/she is in the know and we know they're not a mimic we can begin cleaning the town of Mimics. Once they are all taking care of then maybe we could assemble the town to invade the mind eaters? Personally right now I'm pretty 50/50 on either of these plans. I think the Great Mind actually wants to talk and get whatever that "gift" is which does not just include enslaving Taya. On the other foot I really like the idea of being a vigilante for a bit. But doing that will lock us out of the Great Mind path for good I imagine.
The Old Mind is still willing to meet with you. There does not in fact need to be any hostility between us~Lem
(To expedite a silly questions post) I am tempted Lem, you actions today showed a different side once again. The only thing I need to know is what is this gift we are supposedly bringing. If you can't be direct, would Yulia and her party still be whole and able to progress further through the Tower afterwords. Promise me Yulia will be free to return to town unharmed, unmolested, and her mind intact and her own. Then we will consider this route. We need to leave this floor and soon or I fear we will never leave. Can the Old Mind help us progress to the next floor?
The second half of this floor was definitely rough, just a string of bad decisions and bad luck. You think we run into a similiar decision with the Old Mind as with the One true god? I admit fighting whatever spider monstrosity is at the monarch's throne isn't exactly appealing to me. But then again, the opposite is the fucking dream path. But given that I pretty much cost us the last fight I'm willing to concede to warider here. This floor had me thoroughly beat in the mind games department We probably should still talk to Liloth, see what she has to say.
I am afraid I don't know what the gift, the Old Mind requires is, but I can promise that The Old Mind will not harm Yulia or her party except in self-defense. There is only one way out of this floor and that is through The Monarch's Throne.~Lem
Quite the decision to be left just to me. Ok lets see. First of all, while I still don't trust the Mind Eaters... something is clearly up. If the Old Mind had control or influence on the Mind Eaters then they would have simply stopped when mind fucking Yulia. Instead Lem needed to destroy it? It vanishing into nothing is quite strange... but does not change the fact that with the party helpless there was no reason they couldn't have captured them right then and there. They've already shown they can by taking Cherchiel and Isalia so it's not from a lack of being able to. Clearly the Old Mind is working outside the system of whatever is going on. But still does not want the mimics tampered with for some reason that is not clear to me. I do not like that people are captured... but at the same time, as we learned earlier, they still experience and think they are living they're lives so its at least not hell for them. It is a huge risk to go and see the Old Mind... but it can also be a huge help. I even just had the thought that they could in theory "Eat" the trauma from Yulia, allowing us an easier time on this floor. But that is a whole other thing. I say Yulia first checks her party to make sure nobody is a mimic. That would kind of throw the rest of this plan into the trash as we then have to deal with that somehow... But assuming not: Yulia will go to the Old Mind alone with the halo on. We have been promised the Old Mind will not harm us, and I feel like the Old Mind will at least protect us in getting to him. I would like assurance that we can return to town... but we get what we get. Once there we play it safe and cautious. We ask questions, we possibly give this gift, and then we leave. Perhaps we can learn why the mimics are a thing and what really happened to the Drows from the stories. Such as can Liloth be trusted... I don't like this at all. But we are running out of options. Each path we take is bad and I'm extremely worried another loss could spell the end for us. Being mimic vigilantes is safe... but ultimately doesn't gain us much unless we rescue those in the tanks, but as we know that will not be easy nor give us some great reward. It doesn't mean I've abandoned them yet, but maybe more answers are needed. If they don't even know about being captured... are they being cycled in and out of the tubes? If I try and see it from their perspective it would make sense they wouldn't want the town to know what they did, but also if they wanted to take over they would have by now. It's very clear the Old Mind does not want this or it would have been so easy with their abilities. So maybe it's needed for survival, they are not harmed in any permanent way, and then they are returned to town (For real) later none the wiser.
But now I'm doing more research into Illithid's from where I know them from, DnD. It however doesn't add up. A Illithid colony is usually controlled by a single Brain entity which has absolute control over the surrounding Illithids. There are cases where a Illithid could break free of it's control, but not usually. The absolute authority is what is confusing me because, once again, the Mind Eaters we have fought so far have shown little regard to following commands well. This makes me think this area is not controlled by a single entity... or perhaps this Old Mind is trying to become one. It would also make sense, for any real version of Illithids, to have a solution to eating everyone's brain. Doing so would eventually exhaust their supply or make themselves so dangerous they would be hunted to extinction quickly. If how I'm understanding these Illithids, they actually make more sense than the "real" version. Another option is that I've created a rouge Illithid in the form of Lem somehow. But since Lem has not communicated in this fashion I'm not so sure about that anymore. Seeing as he has access to (Meta gaming a bit) talk to the Voices directly, I would think this channel would be free of influence of the Old Mind.
My worry is all time high... You can do this Yulia! We need answers, we need good news, and we need to get past this floor! Do you best and I wish you luck! If someone goes poorly then blame me, I deserve it for this one!
Oh one final thing! Cherchiel, Goma, and Isalia be sure to get some rest. Be ready to fight more later at full strength. Cherchiel I do need a favor. Yulia, when you come back you must be checked for being a mimic. Cherchiel please remember to make a small cut to see blood. If she does turn out to be a mimic do not rush in to save her. Take your time and plan out what you think the best course of action should be.
Cherchiel you didn't check Yulia XD But it's fine since the voices are here with her. So we wanted answers, got a few more questions. Such are the way of things. A previous chosen cursed and rooted to the spot he fell long ago. A sad tale, but it seems he may have lost who he was in that time. Now in desperation he's willing to throw away all the work he's done just to spite us... I don't think so. It was a weak play and not one I think he will put into action. Best part is he didn't even explain why he needed it or what he has done to slightly control the Mind Eaters in such a way. Regardless, we made our previous decision so there's no going back to reclaim puppet... at least without a fight we are not prepared for. But I think something is off here... Lem, can you still hear and communicate with us Voices? I feel like you already knew about our decision to trade Puppet for the Grace since... you know, it was a mimic of Cherchiel at the time. But you did not tell the Old Mind? Why? The Old Mind can also apparently not listen in on our conversation here, so please speak your mind for once. What is happening? Are the Mind Eaters enslaved or trapped? Why do I feel like you're more in control of the situation than you let on? Why are you not helping the Old Mind more if not? We deserve something considering you're word was broken, if not by accident, as Yulia could have died just now and was definitely harmed not in self defense. I will wait to see if Lem responds... because right now the only other option I see is falling back to operation vigilante XD. Fighting Liloth is off the table I feel and leaving the town to possibly die is also not the best option. Anything requiring Puppet, a spell that seems able to control living beings, and someone who has enough mental capacity to cause someone to have a seizure by accident is not a winning deal.
The Path of Dreams and all within it, is a result of the Old Mind's dream. This is why we cease to exist on death. We are just dreams. I am no different, I have simply been given the ability to think outside of The Old Mind. I like the rest of the hive mind, exist only for the purpose of assisting the Old Mind in achieving it's goal. Unfortunately once a mimic steps out of the Dream, we are not aware of it's actions moment by moment. I was neither aware of The Old Mind's desire for Puppet or that you were not in possession of it. In short, the Mindflayers and the Mimics do not exist. We are simply dreams beholden to the Old Mind, the Dreamer~Lem
As everything else in that fucking Path of Dreams, the Old mind's a dick But we get some valuable intel out of this Liloth is definitely not a mimic! ...yay? Puppet might work different then we assumed, perhaps it's more posession then controlling. That would explain why the old mind wants it so much. It would grant him a new body(Incidentally, that would also put a hard cap on how useful puppet would be for us, as we would essentially just exchange one character for another) Well, I don't like crusty, old death men, so I'm already more inclined to side with Liloth I'd say we see what she has to say, maybe we can even come to an arrangement. It does appear we have a mutual enemy after all, so I don't think she will backstab us right away.
Yulia you did well, sorry for making you go through that. We gained valuable information and you made it back to town safe. Stay strong, we will make it through this level. I agree with my fellow voice, Liloth is not a Mimic and can weirdly be trusted as well as could have a reason to help if she wants to save her people. We need to be cautious, but telling her the situation would not hurt. If she doesn't care then perhaps the best choice is to just move on. I doubt the old man will through his plans into the fire just yet. His mimic attack is a bluff. If she does want to help, a suggestion. The best way to prevent a disaster is to organize a party or event where everyone gets together. Once done so we could slowly pull people away from said party to check them for mimics? Single file would be better, but i don't know how we would organize that without being suspicious. If the mimics get triggered they would all be at the party, so while there would still be casualties it would also be contained and can be dealt with right there.
Liloth, is Gomma actually preggers or just possibly? If so, is Cherchiel the actual father is is this some monster? They deserve to know that much and what they want to do after is up to them. Also... How can you even tell that? Is it coffee... It's coffee isn't it. Looks like we should look for the artist. If we can find this weapon then we should have no problems defeating the Old Mind. Artists like drawing pictures of naked women, so we could bribe him with that.
Oh...something tells me an abortion won't be that easy this time around. Well, this certainly is starting to turn into a wild goose chase, but might as well see where this leads us Seems like the Dwarf Hold is our best starting point to find this artistic dwarf.
